I've never autocrossed before, so I was definately looking forward to this weekend at Goodguys. Jesus H. Christ it fucking ruled. My first "parade" run I got a little too excited and went way off course and then killed the car. After another parade lap, I got the hang of it it was a complete blast. Over about 16 runs, my best was a 22.48. Kinda slow compared to the rest of the cars, but not bad. I'll take an autocross or a road coarse over drag racing any day of the week... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ch182AgmClc"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ch182AgmClc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LvwUGKOT9F0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LvwUGKOT9F0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Anyone know how to edit the videos, or a program I can download? They look great and are high quality videos, but when I upload them to youtube they look like crap. I took a bunch of pictures at the show too, but don't have time to edit them now. I'll post those tomorrow. Thanks for looking!
YouTube's compression always makes stuff look like crap.... I didn't get to see you run, but Luke and I watched the Autocross for about an hour or so this afternoon. I so want to get my car done so I can do that. I doubt my times would be the best, but it sure looks like a load of fun flogggin' on old cars.
Man....that looks like some fun... Your olds is cool too by the way, it looked good going up 75 to the Denison show.
Man, I have been telling you guys about this for a year now. I am glad that everyone else thinks it is as fun as I thought it was. Long live the autocross!
NICE. actually running your hot rod is cool huh? Funny, it turns out Hot Rods were meant to be driven, HARD (even if it is slow on a tight course). Who knew?
Dang...That looked like fun. I don't know how your times measured up to other but it sure looked like you did a hell of a job. Makes me wished like hell i would have gone out there for a few hours today but was at big Kens all day. Thanks for the videos
You would have had a faster time if you had someone run your airbags while you drove. You have to make those 3 wheeled turns like all the hoopdeez for fast cornering.
Haven't used any of them but here's some apps that might help with editing. http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/video_editor.html
It looks like a real ball with such "unconventional" auto-X cars! Autocrossing, for those who have never tried it, is more of a challenge to do well at than you could probably imagine. It's something that I enjoy doing with my Corvette sometimes. But with only a few events under my belt so far, I'm just so-so on my best days. I thought that with a few years of oval racing experience that this would be a piece of cake. I could not have been more wrong. For example, my Corvette has a very healthy stroker engine plus chassis, suspension and brake upgrades. Yet an accomplished driver with a similar but completely stock Corvette will still clean my clock with no problem. Probably more than anything else I've ever done, the driver can make more difference than any modifications, especially excessive horsepower. It is not always your friend! But no matter what, it's lots of fun and a very intense experience. I just ran an event yesterday. And although I finished second in class, I was still quite soundly trounced time-wise, by a much more experienced driver. But at least some folks whom I respect say I'm making progress, so that was encouraging to hear.
The Goodguys autocross was more about having fun than anything else. Most of the cars are not set up for this kind of driving, I witnessed a couple "pro touring" cars prove that big brakes and wheels don't do anything with stock suspension. But every pass I made I was trying to better my own time, not to beat anybody else. I'd say this addition to the event is a major success. .......and worth EVERY PENNY!!! Thanks Kirk!
Eric saw you live and on film and it proves that it was not the car, but the driver that was slow. HEHE Robert
Way cool! I saw you make some of your runs. I ended up getting 2nd place in the Street Rod (Pre '54) class in my old farm truck.
Shit, don't thank me. I just passed the word on. I think you hit the nail on the head about racing your own times. Maybe four out of the 40 drivers really cared about winning. The later years class that you were in is the toughest, for obvious reasons, but you never know what will happen. Hell, Hotrod F-1 took 2nd place in the earlier class in his truck.
are they going to be doing this at any other goodguys events....? might be worth actually going back to their shows.... brandon
Eric, It all starts out innocent enough with a couple passes at the Good Guys show. I will send you a link to the SCCA at Pennington field so you can do some more Locally. Then I'll take you with me to College Station and let you ride along around Texas World Speedway in the 335i, that course is 1.8 miles of FUN. http://www.texasworldspeedway.com/tracks.htm After that you will better understand my Track nose T-Roadster project that will combine both hobbies. It's a slippery slope and Kirk gave you the first hit for free.
The gunsite ornament on the hood provided a great look to your runs ,motor sounds great as well. Our Roadburner Jeff "Don't Need No Stinkin Fenders" Patchins 32 holds the world record for # of runs at Americruise, the coupe looks soooo great swingin and swayin thru the cones!!-Sololobo/Roadburners of Omaha
Charlotte is the last one this season. Next year there will be a bunch. One at eack NASCAR facility and also at Nashville.
Oh man, that was fun. I did it in my '55 Chevy. The suspension is all stock except for sway bars. I got a best of 22.5 seconds. I probably did it 60 times this weekend, and whenever i get the chance I'm going to do it again.
Used to Solo (SCCA for Autocross) a Renault LeCar and had a ball doing it. Before you start laughing, on a tight course I would whip Vettes all day long. Looks like a blast. GV
Hot rod artist you sure had a hard time this weekend, broken axle, fuel filter, and alternator. Did the alternator fix it?
I use to do alotta solo in my corvette. Word of advise, if you don't spin out once, your not trying hard enough.
