Any references for guys who are good, AND are as picky as I am about doing quality work? I need to have my drive shaft resplined and shortened. Not sure if a regular ole driveline shop can do that? Thanks. Matt

Most Hot Rodders in Austin have been using Austin Drive train specialists for years. I don't recall the name of the guy that handles the small, one off stuff for guys like us, so just call & tell em what it's for & they will take care of you. They do fine work.

Running the center support bearing with the 40 driveshaft?
    I hope so.
Even when short it will "whip" and cause vibrations...

Yep, I just have to get some new bearings....should have two of them in there. I'm cutting from the rear just the same as I cut the TTube.

I used Harden drive axle for my camaro, and will use them again, he does good work and WAY cheaper than austin drive train. He is located off of Howard.

Resplining a shaft is a job for a machine shop, not a driveshaft place. There is not enough meat for full dia. splines. I don't think it matters, just mentioning it. I have seen shafts cut and welded with a sleeve. Another way is to bore out the coupling so it drives onto the shaft and weld it . I was going to replace most of the solid shaft with a tube that would fit over the shaft. I found a 32 shaft and will use that with a coupling welded into the end.
