So who is hosting VLV 2008's car show? As their website still mentions a car show..

Last I heard, Axle is no longer involved in the car show. He is working on putting together a car show which will compete with VLV on the same weekend. At least, that's what I've heard so far. Anyone?? Axle???

Yeah, I've heard the same thing. So who is taking over the VLV car show if not the Shifters? Or will this be Tom Ingram's own doing?

I hear Tom's doing it now. Funny since he's not a real car guy:)

  7. The VLV Car Show is continuing and I will be announcing full details soon. I have had a lot of people from the car scene contact me about being involved and I am just finalizing details at the moment.

There's no way Axle is going to go head-to-head with VLV. He's too smart and no fool. The town and calendar is big enough to handle multiple nostalgia rod shows as long as the schedules are far enough apart.

Axle has always been good to me. I think the world of him and can't believe he'd make me choose between VIVA and his show. VIVA is way cool. I went there for the first time in 2004, thanks to Howard Greenfield, founder of the Rattlers Car Club, fell in love with the music, the cars and the people. I've been back every year since. Brought the Big John Mazmanian Willys in 2006 and the Bad News Travels Fast Willys in 2007.

I host a couple of nostalgia drag races each year and there is no way I'd go head to head with the major car show and drag race organizations. I don't compete with them and therefore they're at least somewhat supportive of what I do.

Viva is known around the world as the number one rockabilly hot rod event. Why? Because it is. Going up against it would be like me trying to go up against the California Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield. They'd win, I'd lose...big time. I might be right but I'd be dead right.

Axle, if you're listening. Choose a weekend that works (weatherwise) that doesn't compete with VLV. If you can do that, I'll be there if at all possible.

PS: Just finished the 2007 VLV DVD! Is it HOT or what? Nearly Nasty & definitely Smokin'!

I have been going every year to VLV since it started, I enjoy the whole 50's lifestyle from hot rods, to music, to vintage clothes and furniture/architecture etc. etc.. .from talking to a lot of other folks who have been going for years too , the general concensus is that VLV has been going down hill for the last 6 or so years. I think it has just gotten too big, and crowded with folks that aren't there for the right reasons. I know that at the shifters show, they will have good bands and dj's also, and tons of cool cars and if thats not enough, i know at least I will get to hang out with my good buddies.

I had lots of fun in previous years at VLV and tons of great memories from there, but have just found myself "partying in the room" and not really getting too excited about the bands the last few years.

Gasserguy your post sounds like propaganda. Maybe Axle/shifters is the "major car show people" and tom is captain of a sinking ship. Only time will tell, Ive gone to 3 of the shifter vegas carshows and never gone inside the viva show. I think there are enough car guys that could support the shifters show even if it was on the same day.

I for one hope the shifters show IS the same weekend as viva. I hope that it happens either at the palms or the rio as both are right across the street from viva.

I dig the bangs but am not really into the doowhop scene. I enjoy the car show portion of viva more then anything.

I think the car show portion was getting out of hand and a lot of cars were getting in that should not have (all of that has been said). I think that only paid people should be allowed in the car show portion or there should be a car show only wrist band that costs cheaper.

I told the wife this last year that I am done paying the $$$ for the showcase theaters when we spend most of our time watching the free band(s) in the lower free area and in the car show.

Another neat idea would be to have the car show down on the strip area...but I would only do that if it was on a different weekend then Viva. If they are going head to head with viva they should keep it within walking distance of viva.

also, if they go with a different weekend in vegas make sure it is in the cooler months so there are no heat strokes.

bring out the tiki bar.... keep the budweiser booth at VLV.
invite the car clubs and the good cars..... keep the ratrods at VLV.
keep it more initimate. doesnt have to be big.... VLV can have that.

you dont have to have fucking disneyland to have a good time. Disneyland sucks.

the point is that i dont think you need to beat VLV in crowds and chaos to have success. combine good cars, the right friends, and the freedom to have a good time + Vegas = success.

Seriously-- the ANTI-VLV. I'd support it, and i know a lot of others that would too.

.The car show was much more organized when it was on the rooftop and alot cooler for a hang out..It looked like a fleamarket from rios rooftop last year..freaked me out as a vendor....I had to carry my shit 600 ft. 7 am because of the congestion..Overall it ended up good though..

I'm not sure I understand all this vitriol towards Tom. I understand that he and Axle have had a falling out and that's a shame, but the centre cannot hold. Somethimes things fall apart.
I've had a great time at three VLV's since 2003 and met some folk that have become firm friends. This year's car show wasn't the best by any means, so maybe something needed to change. This could work out for the best for all parties.
To be honest though, I think Tom deserves a little more respect than being told to go 'fuck himself', especially after coming on here and speaking up.

As for me, I'll be going where Ernest goes. Always love his gassers!

Not sure what Tom did to you guys either... Seems like a super nice guy that is straight up and appropriate.

I think if you don't know what really happened with this deal, then you should keep your nose out of it...

And who really knows what happened? None of us.

    So, closed.
