What is a "RAT ROD"

I was just wondering what makes a rod a rat rod... Can anyone answer this question for me please.

I found a rat in the trunk of my car. And a rat ate into the seats of my brother in laws' truck. They're rat rods.

 

Good luck on this one.... this forum (myself included) generally frown on "rat rods"

From what I've seen of them they seem to be put together (usually piss-poorly) simply to look like the owners don't give a **** - no matter how much they have to pay or how much fake "patina" ie rust they have to apply.

To me it's just a fad - people not caring enough to take pride in their vehicles looks/safety/performance.

 

This should be fun

 

rat rod=rusty **** box, put together by a lazy amateur, trying to get into Old Skool Rodz Magazine, nothing more, nothing less.

I guess I give a **** what I build, I have real patina, it will be finished someday and I sure as **** hope it is safe. I have a floor, a window, I thought I was hotrodder maybe I am just a wannabe... Nothing like real hotrodders to tell you the difference. Thanks Guys

When the word was invented back in the early 90's it meant something completely different than what it is today.

 

WHAT IF..............ok dudes...try this out....if you take a hamb worthy "rod" (32 3w ford coupe, gloss black, high on the rails, bright red steelies....you know the stuuf a worthy rod is made of) and stuff a big block chevy(A.K.A. RAT motor) between the rails.....would'nt you have a RAT ROD? Would this be something the "hambsters" would like or approve of? Actually who really gives a ****?

 

Don't be pissed. The term Rat Rod does not go over well here.
