well im tearing out the old six and old tourqe tube. im replacing it with a chevy 350\350 combo. any body have any rearend suggestions that will fit my car. im still running stock steelies. and i think the stock rearend width is 60in.
This guide should help...http://www.carnut.com/specs/rear.html Are you keeping the stock leaf-springs? If so, the 70's Camaro and Nova rears are practically a bolt in. All you need to do is re-drill the perches on the rear (or make blocks and drill those)...1.5" forward from the stock location to compensate for the offset locating pin on the stock springs. Bryan
got a 65 nova rear in mine... nice and short. that chart Rusk posted is a good thing to have around, though I didn't see the popular S-10 rears mentioned. had a 70-78 camaro rear in my old one... I couldn't run my skirts with the wheels I had.. pretty sure they were 15x6.
Me too. There's another chart on http://www.50chevy.com...I think it lists the years for the S10 4x4 rears. Bryan
54-210, 76 Nova, 2.93 gear. real good. even the park brake hooks right up. I think when I welded on new spring pads, I drilled the center bolt hole in a different place to center the wheel in the wheel opening. Even the Nova driveshaft fell right in. right lenght. The Nova had an auto and i got a Saginaw. Frank
Lots of threads on this - these all work if you relocate the hole for the pin: 55-57 Chevy 70-81 Camaro/Firebird 75-79 Nova and clones (have not been able to find out if the 68-74 rear is the same or not) 82-up S10 4x4 Many others will fit but may need perches moved or added, or will have the wrong bolt pattern for the wheels.
I have a 70's nova rear for my 40, I bought new leafs and hangers from Ch***is engineering for this rear end so all I have to do is bolt it in, I wont have to cut the perches, do any welding, just bolt in and go...... hers a link for your car http://www.ch***isengineeringinc.com/page31.html
