Building a Custom car. Anyone have images or information on some F1-F100 Front Axles? Here's what I looking for: 1. - Axle needs to work with Later 1960 F100 steering arms. 2. - Needs to mount up to 2" springs. I think I need around a 1957-1964 axle...but, Is there a year that does not have the small "dip" or "smile" in the center? I plan to have center bent and narrowed with a much larger dip, and small "smile" one may keep from having a nice smooth transition. Drawing attached in what final axle is to look like. Photo below it is similar to what I have... not sure what year this is? 1960-64? So, what year is close without smile? Would rather a heaver axle, I think the F1 is thinner..and I don't want the spindle holes in axle. - Brian
The F1 axle is straight between the dropped ends. It does have a shock mount hole in it at the drop on each side. The F1 frame narrows an inch on each side at the front of the cab so the distance between the springs is two inches narrower than the F100.
I just heard that the 1957-1960 should be the axle I need. Fits 2" springs... Most should not have smile... Steering arms that bolt to the two bottom spindle bolts, not the axle. More specs: 2-3/8" king pin boss king pin size .859 4 degree inclination 53-1/2" king pin to king pin top side 32-1/4" center to center spring (Thanks Sid!) Any other comments are welcome. ...and I'm look'n for one in the San Francisco Bay area, if any leads out there. Just axle beam, or will deal with full front end if need be. I guessing the 57-60 will work with my '64 spindles & brakes...?
Some 57 axles have the dip (smile). Most are straight with out the dip. Like posted the kingpins are .859 dia. on the 53-60 Ford axles. The 46-52 F-1 dimensions are 2-3/8" boss 50-3/4" Kp to KP top side 29" center to center spring perch 4-1/2" original drop 1-3/4" wide spring All measurements are the same on 46-52 axles the only thing different is the 48-52 has shock holes in the axle 46 & 47 have no shock hole in the axle.
