You know,.... I really hate posting a "Your Opinion" post,... but I could use some advice.

I bought this 1933 Buick 9 years ago because I told everyone and his brother about it and no one would even go over to look at it,.. When I seen it I just thought the car had great style,... it was reasonable, so I bought it.

Currently I am in the process of trying to raise some money, so in conversation I told my sons that I was thinking of selling a Gl*** Deuce Roadster I was going to build as kind of a family utility Rod, They both told me "why don't you sell that big old barge in the back of the barn ?" (a.k.a. The 1933 Buick)

I dig the old gal out of the back of the barn and bring it home to put a late model Engine/Trans & Rear end in it,... No room in the garage?,... No problem, There's a dead flat space of concrete between the house & driveway right in front of the garage.

This is where I start getting interested in the Buick again,.. I had the stock rear axle out and the 9" Ford mounted in 4 hours, This includes building the spring pads, Than I went to put the 455/TH400
in place and there was just a ton of room in every direction, the stock trans mount even bolted right up with no modifications !
Fabricated up the engine mounts and had them in, the engine leveled out and installed in 6 hours (including 2 coffee brakes and lunch)

The day before K-Zoo I get sick and can't take it to the swap meet,... next weekend for the midland swap meet I'm still sick,.... Soooo I still have the car, I went to post it for sale today,.. and am having a big problem offering it,...

So heres where I need your opinion,... This isn't the normal type of car that appeals to me,... but for some reason I kind'a like it, Do any of you see this car as a potentially really cool ride,... or am I loosing it ? Should I sell the Gl*** Deuce and keep this large by Huge
    barge?

I know this post seems sort of lame, but I could really use some outside opinions,........ Thanks

    Keep the barge!
look for a wagon ch***is, and swap it over

This will be a quick and dirty, till you get your "primo" ch***is built up

Here are the two cars in question,...

The picture is kind of a optical illusion, I am only about 10 feet away from the roadster, and the Buick is about 12 feet away from the other side of the roadster,... thats why they look so close in size,.. the Buick dwarfs the roadster side by side,.... I have never had a car that seemed like it wanted to help me build it before,.. the biggest problem was finding a 9" that was wide enough,... had to use a LTD axle, so far everything went together without a fight of any kind. (The other big problem is that I have several important projects waiting for attention.....)

the buick seems like it could be more of a family project, and it also seems like you could move the whole family in the buick as well...
either way -- good luck on your decison.

I had a friend that built a 33 Buick several years ago,,I know he sold it and has tried to by it back,,,the guy that bought it wouldn't take twice what he paid for it.

And he paid over 40 grand,,,appears to be the same body style.

Yeah,,,,gl*** roadsters are fun but you can replace them easy enough. Keep the Buick,,,My 2 cents worth. HRP

  14. Nah, you don't need that big ol' tunaboat.... send it to me 8)
As the others have said, you can buy a gl*** '32 anyday of the week... whens the next time you're liable to come up with a '33 Buick 4 door (which, if you want a family car, probably doesn't get any better than that...)

    Since YOU asked. ;)
A buddy of mine has a 33 Buick coupe. Yup... it's a few inches bigger all around than the A but it has some nice styling lines. It's a little cl***ier car.
As for if to keep the "barge" or not.. think about what you would do with it after it's done. Family ride?
And how about while building it? Are the "kids" gonna help?
I don't know how old you are so don't take offense.. any grandkids that could help?
This could be a major family project. No immediate family? How about neighborhood project?
SOOo many options. Chop (mild or wild), shorten the hood (a BIT) to make it less barge-like, bone stock body with new running gear or (like the rest of the folks here) send it to me!
Real or gl***... hmmm. I got no problems with gl*** but.. real? Real steel, man.
Are you losing it? Now THAT is a question I ask of myself ALL the time. In fact, I am asked that by others too!
    Enjoy.

about 17 years ago, I had a 35 Buick, 40 Series. It had a warmed over 350/350, Must II, and a Granada rear. I put a slew of miles on it, went to the Turkey Run in Daytona on our honeymoon in it. I got the itch to build something different so I sold it. I'd give anything to have it now. What great rods those early Buicks make!!!

The key should be the condition of the wood framework and floorstructure of the body. GM had full wooden structure until 1936 except the few steel structured 36 Standard Chevys they made.

Thats another thing, the wood in this car's body and sub/under structure is exceptional, The doors open and close like a bank vault, and the floor pan has a rust spot about the size of a piece of rice,... the top bows are history (except to make patterns off of) and a small piece of wood around the back window needs to be replaced,....

As far as the kids helping?, they are both adults and have very busy life's,.. I do have one grandchild but he's only 16 mo. old, I am leaning toward keeping the Buick and selling the Deuce (there's a couple more Deuces stashed away), If I keep it I will have to work on it in between other cars (for other people as well as myself).

Looks like a landslide to keep the Buick so far,... I really do appreciate all of your opinions,....... Thank You all

Keep the Barguick! I own a stone stock 1937 Buick Special, and that car get's more looks at the shows than anything else I've ever owned. The old-timers LOVE to hear the straight eight just sit there and quietly tick over as it idles. Every one of them has a story about an old Buick. Again, keep the big car. You'll regret it later if you sell.

I'm with the others in this poll - keep the Buick! It is so much more of a car than the deuce will evewr be. Not that I am knocking the deuce, but it is fibergl*** and there are about a bazillion of those things around. Kind of like belly ****ons, everyone has one. However, not everyone has a '33 Buick such as you do. They were fairly rare, even when new, as 1933 was hard into the depression. And, the '33 Buick was a one year only design. While the body, grille, fenders etc. may look like the '34-'35's that followed, in fact, essentially none of the body parts were interchangeable. I know as I had a
'33-90 series Victoria. A huge car with a 138" wheelbase! I'm very sorry that I ever sold that beauty. It was a once in a lifetime car. Don't let yours get away.

However, if you do decide to send her down the road, I would be very appreciative if you would give me a chance to give her a home.

Good luck, no matter which way you decide to go.

I have a buddy that has a Super Nice Clean 1932 Buick Vicky . You might have seen it a number of years back at the K-zoo swap. It is Bone stock except a 2" chop .. I know he looking to sell it and get a 32 Ford. The Vicky is the smaller wheelbase were your is about 2 feet longer I'm thinking!!??!!

How about this. Hold on to the big Buick until Westcot or Outlaw makes gl*** bodies for the 33 Buick.

It's an easy one, keep the barge!!!!!!!!

How useful can a rough riding roadster be in northern MI ??

You say you have others, so why the issue?

Denise,... you just have a way of putting it all into perspective,... This is exactly what our buddy Bill in Blissfield told me this morning. Right after we talked about him selling one of his cars to buy 2 or 3 others I found for him:rolleyes:,.... I am going to blow the Deuce apart and finish up some stuff then re***emble it and broom it regardless of the Buick's fate.

I guess it's time to thin out the herd,... but where do you start?,.. what do you cut out and what do you keep ? I love building them more than any other aspect, the other part I love is the hunt for tin stuffed away in guys garage's that haven't seen the light of day in decades,.... I always believe they deserve a second chance,.. and I like to get them at least well on there way to being something that will be finished and preserved before I let em' go,... This is exactly what has gotten me into the situation I am in now.

Denise there's a lot of merit in what you and Bill say (even though Bill is replacing 1 car with 3  ),... but that little voice in my (obsessive-compulsive) head whispers"keep da' big ol' Buick",... I'll have to work on this, but there may be a m*** exodus of stuff in my future.

Thanks folks for the advice,.. I do take it all to heart.

(Oh,... and BTW, If anyone knows of a 1913-1916 Oldsmobile with a bad body but usable hood, rad shell, fenders and ch***is,... or a fire engine,.....Please P.M. me  )
