Motors were gone early yesterday. Semis were loading everything they could hold. As said above, it was a series II car that that didn't make it. They had a contract for someone out of the country to put them together and because of the time they took to not do it...Shelby's investors threw in the towel and liquidated the stock.

It was supposedly enough to build 200 cars. They have a scrapper handling some stuff (probably so nobody can still build one). I doubt it could be titled anyway...the group that runs it now wants a handful of $ for anything to legally be called a "Shelby". Motors and bucket seats would have been nice for a hot rod if you could get past the tech stuff on the Auroras and logos on the seats. They also had stainless Borla exhaust and Corvette suspension parts.

Apology not accepted. Without this thread I wouldn't have learned a little bit of (new) history.

Honestly, even one bolt from an abandoned shelby attempt would make a hot rod cooler, just cause of bragging rights.

Carroll Shelby ghost writes a column in "octane magazine".In his september column he wrote".. I get asked why i keep doing all of this at my age.I never really thought I would still be building cars today in 2007- doctors told me back in 1960 that I only had five years to live.
And I know a lot of people wonder why I didn't build cars for a long time, but they don't realize that 'Performance' really went away because of Emission and safety here in the USA.
But now performance is back ,it's on top and,as with most of life ,"timing is everything'.it's right when they say,'make hay when the sun shines., I'm lucky to be able to do that at nearly 85 years old and intend to keep doing it until I'm horizontal.
For next month i'll try to tell you about whats north of the the 725bhp "Super Snake" Mustang. ...."

So,at least the man himself was confident in August that Business is going well, they also have a plant in Michigan where the majority of work is done ,Mainly the GT500's .They had,in September sold 3000 of those and orders were held for 6000. So it's hardly likely they were (or are) going broke. The Vegas facility is just a final assembly plant.
As for his health issues,No big secret there,he is patron of several Heart foundations around the World, and as he says above,in 1960 he wasn't expected to live beyond the end of the decade as he spit in the face of those who declared him unfit because of that.
He also says that you should make hay while the sun shines,to those who got good deals on engines,Ypou have Carroll Shelby's blessing it would appear.Go for it!

Check out the old pics of Shelby when he was just starting the Cobra thing. There are always young women in the shots, many are often reffered to as his "secretary.."
What should have been said was " Shelby and ,..." you get the picture..;);)

Yes, because the act of hopping up stock engines and upgrading suspension to handle the track is SOO K-Mart.

You're mother must have eaten the best part of you at birth.

  10. Carroll Shelby is a,"hot rod" himself. He has enough,"parts" from other people in him to be called that.

I went down there to check this out today. There was never any of the equipment listed above for sale; engilsh wheels, lathes, mills. BUT there was a ton of GM and shelby series 1 shit. There was a guy with a Corvette parts place buying up all the Corvette parts which there are a ton of. Lots of series 1 body parts, vintage air units $200, and tons of misc small parts. They will never get rid of it all in two days. I will be inspecting the dumpsters for the rest of the week.

  15. Some comments on how Shelby doesn't have anything to do with hot rods should be filed under "Flaunting Ignorance". The HAMB needs a "Dunce Cap" emoticon.

Uh...yes Shelby is hot rodding. In the best hotrod tradition he took a little puny underpowered car, stuffed a big American V-8 in it, and proceeded to stomp the fastest cars in the world with it. Whats not hotrod about that?

Dont talk shit about Shelby, when you're not anything close.

Where to find good deals on parts and/or tools that enable hotrods = on topic and valuable. Aside from that-- Save the drama for your mama.

Wish i was in Vegas to go for a lookie...

I don't know who posted that original comment about Shelby, but I think I can understand what he means. Would anyone post anything on this site concerning Shelby's? I don't think we would see a 69 Shelby posted on here for someone to comment on. If so we might as well include Nickey, Baldwin Motion, and Mr. Norm Grand Spaulding Dodge cars.

So is this a traditional Hot Rod site, or is it anything goes, as long as we stuff a big V-8 into something.

Shelby built the first Cobra in the back of Mickey Thompsons work shop, yup two names that should never be linked with Hot Rods.........

Actually it was Dean Moon's shop in Santa Fe Springs, Ca., but your main point still holds true!

To a point, the site is self policing....and if you don't understand what goes on around here, it really can't be explained...Carroll Shelby=King of the hill.

I'm not saying Shelby is not a name associated with Hot Rods, but do you think if I post the cars Shelby is known for, it would be a traditional hot rod?

People get on others all the time for non-traditional rods and I usually stay out of it...I was just pointing out what SinisterCustom quoted, and understanding his point of view.

Besides...Hank, is King of the Hill

You guys can argue about who and what Carroll means to the hot rod world but I can tell you one thing for sure. I got a great deal on Energy Suspension bump stops at the fire sale and I want to pass it along to you guys. See my signature line.

  28. The HAMB is devolving.... This kinda bickering is not what I signed up for. Threads like these will shoot up to 10 pages in no time, but when someone asks a tech Q Only a handful respond. Maybe there's only a handful of guys who know their stuff.....

.... In closing..... aren't you glad I didn't start a new thread to say this?
