Id like to ask all long time HAMBers and most new guys as well. A question thats been brought up many times. We know Ryan has a full plate keeping this board up and running Im sure. But is there any solution to all the foolish NEWBIE post? look here
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=392877&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
this is a perfect example of what we dont want. I thought maybe a good idea was not to allow newbies to post adds in the classifieds for some time but thats not fare to the people who may need the part or have the part for sale. If that happen it would fall to the hands of e bay even quicker...Even past the Classifieds the lip recieved from new people is amazing these days. Weve put in time and have earned the right to bust some balls. if post counts didnt matter then Ryan would have them on our profiles correct? what about the HAMB status area?..........long story short I think it would help save alot of OT post and hazing if there was a INTRO post that went along when you filled out your profile. maybe it would go directly to your first post...if you failed to post a intro you couldnt post until you did? Im ranting but it just seems every day there more people signing on and getting beat down from us for not posting a intro. well most dont know they need to...So It could help if the HAMB could hold there hands and walk them into there first post of an intro and its done?

With respect to, as you said, Ryan having enough on his plate, I think the intro requirement built-in to registration is a really good idea, if it's possible.

How about a rules on joining section vso when you join you have to read the rules first and perhaps a minimum of say ten posts and an intro before being able to put an advert on,i'm sure Ryan could fix it so that a new bod could only place an ad after all qualifications were met although it would be more work for him and he already has enough to do.............Marq

I wouldn't even bother, this poor guy didn't even leave enough info to pull off his sale. I think it's just a regular having some fun with the group! Or at least the intro police. [IMG] Could be Ryan himself! [IMG]

I think it would be helpful if there was a how to, like in the Hamb o'dex. That way fools who read it would know what to do. Then the thrashing would make more sense - if you dont read the directions you deserve the punishment.

As you can see - Im still a stranger, with few posts. Mostly because I have little of value to add to most threads as I am here to learn and don't want to build post #s by replying to every intro. My momma taught me if you don't have anything nice to say, or valuable to add shut the f*** up. I do alot of my replys with PM's or email.

I like the idea of an auto-intro form.

my $.02 - FWIW from a newish chick.

What kind of gay shit is this? I've been reading the HAMB for about 4 years now and the guys today get off easy. Jason used to make people cry. Or what about 40StudeDude jumping people's shit? It part of the whole HAMB experience.

Its like joining a gang and getting jumped in. The pussies need not apply. Auto intros and hand-holding seems like the antithesis to the get-your-hands-dirty philosophy of the HAMB.

You're getting soft, Mikey. Looks like MBL is going to have to get rough with you again.... [IMG]

I'm kind of a newbie, 'cause I stupidly stopped posting a while back and hadda redo my intro today.
And I gotta say, I totally support you guys policing this site.
I sell stuff on eBay and I know there's a ton of dishonest snakeoil salesmen out there, so props to you guys for trying to do the right thing.
If I ever sell my Falcoon, I'll put it up on here first.

Well, I'm pretty new here, and I knew to do an intro becuase I checked this place out for a couple days, and everyone who didn't intro or did a shitty one got alot of crap from everyone, sooooo being the non-confrontational guy i am, I did a nice intro. so if someone just finds this place, joins up and starts trying to sell stuff or asking for help, then they probably don't realize what the HAMB is all about, and deserve to griped at. The main reason I joined was to meet people in DFW who are into traditional rides, I thought i was gonna have to move to so-cal to join a real car club. but i found the HAMB (the HAMB found me?) and life is good.

There is a point here I think...I agree if someone gets on here without an intro and says..."I need a green metalflake wheel...or a chain wheel oh and my feet don't fit in my roadster but I like green to keep on onning" someone should jump him but once it is done it should really end...we don't really need a bunch of posts bashing...I like to look at this place like a garage...if someone comes to a garage where we are working and says Hey I got some stuff to sell...I don't right away say get lost...in many cases it is just ingnorance that gets these people to do an improper first post...People who are obviously logging in just to sell stuff...send them to sinner...can't get blood from a rock...

I think you have a good idea.

Remember though, the bashing of newbies has been
around since the inception of the original
board. Back when there were only a few of us.

It was a sort of initiation to the board. And it
tended to thin out the population. We didn't want
people on here who weren't true to the 'code'.

I still think the bashing is great. I laugh
everytime someone gets bashed. Although sometimes
it does tend to get a bit mean. Most people who
aren't idiots can take it fine and stay. The pussys
    bail and that is fine.

And as far as an instructional manual for newbies, I disagree.
If your stupid enough to login and post the
very first time you are here without reviewing

<font color="red"> WHAT THE SITE IS ABOUT </font>,

    you deserve what you get!

And for selling stuff on the site....
I personally have a website business and NEVER
advertise it here. I'm not here to USE Ryan's
bandwidth for my own personal gain. I do agree
that there should be a level of posts that is
required before you can list in the Classified
    section.

When I made my first couple of posts here, I didn't introduce myself because I didn't see that being the policy here explained until later, when I saw people getting called out for doing the same thing. When people post without introducing themselves, it's generally because nobody told them to, and when they do introduce themselves, it's either because a friend of theirs first told them to, or because they were lurking and they read about it by seeing others criticized for not having done it first.

If it was up to me, there would be a "thumbtacked" thread at the top of every section on this board (and the thread would be locked to keep it getting filled up with inane comments), called Read Before Posting, which would explain the rules.

I would also make it a policy that the only way someone could register here would be by filling out every field in their profile, including their real name, E-mail address, city, and state (or country).

While I'm at this, another thing I'd do is make it a rule that all thread titles would have to actually be about the subject of the thread, doing away with the cute, attention-whore thread titles like "Um, I just was wondering............."

And these are just some of the many reasons why I would never go through all the headaches of running a message board.

  19. There's only one rule in the Cannonball: there are no rules.

Stumbling in, making an ass of yourself and getting stomped is a right of passage. The thin-skinned pussies can leave. Fuck 'em. Separate the men from the sheep.

Hey Ryan, can I get my title changed to Resident Dipshit?

Draglink, we have always got along sop dont take this the wrong way, but why dont you and the rest of the "holyer than thou, been here forever" self righteous jackoffs shut the fuck up. I dont have the multi thousand posts that others have but I have been here as long if not alot longer than most. I have no need to post on every damn thing that rolls down the pike. How about cars? remember those things? the reason we showed up here? If 3/4 of the HAMBs population quit worrying about what some guy wrote in a magazine or how many are showing up the the vlv party maybe you could get something done. If you dont have a construstive post then keep your replies to yourself.
Maybe a long time Hamb guy needs what he is selling. If so then the info is there, if not the post will die off and be forgotten. Is it worth the effort to rag the guy out? This reminds me of third grade bullies except that if you do it over the net you are even a bigger pussy.

being somewhat new myself, i should stay out of this, but before they can post on the HAMB, let's make all newbies run a 'gauntlet' at GERM'S place! [IMG]

seriously though, there should be some form of a mandatory (and automated) profile form that needs to be filled out before you can post on here. even better if that would automatically become the first post.

Useta be fun to poke fun at the newbies... Not anymore.

When people start askin, "Are you married? Kids? What do you do for a living?" etc... kinda sounds like your lookin for a date to me...

I'm sick of hearing "your walking into OUR garage without an intro?" Get the fuck over it. When a friend brings a friend into my shop, I don't give him the 3rd degree... usually shake his hand and offer him something cold to drink...

I still like readin the intro posts though... 'specially when someone gets their panties inna bunch... but still come back.

THAT was the idea in givin newbies shit BTW.

imo - HAMB doesnt need rules and regulations.... i signed on because people speak their minds. it weeds out the pussies and non-hackers....

who cares if youve got some cool shit to sell??? chances are your broke ass's cant afford it or it can be found closer to your area...patience??

also, most of you weenies are bantering AND agreeing about the same shit anyways, and its almost ALWAYS the same people argueing. youre preaching to the choir.

its fun the way it is, rules are gay... the more you have, the more PC everything gets.

last but not least, senority through post count is cheesy. generally you get respect from your peers over time and by your actions.
