About 1999 I was in southern California and happened to stop at an engine builder/supply house called Speed-o-Motive. They had a flathead on display with some Federal Mogul heads on it. I remember not believing what I was seeing...thinking...no, those can't be copper heads? Might be worth someone in So-Cal looking into.

Hogan's in New Zealand made two peice br*** heads back in the day for boats. Flatties in Boats after WW2 were very popular. Fume Explosions in the bilge were another matter:eek:

AFAIK Gran-Cor only ever made aluminum heads...

Gran-Core, Andy Granatelli, (not sure of the spelling) made copper heads for Ford & Merc. Flathead V8's Don Garlits Museum in Ocala, Fl. has a pair of them on display.

  10. You dragged up a 2 year old thread for that?

There was an article in (probably) Hot Rod magazine 20 or 30 years ago. I remember the "thermosiphoning" thing. I remember the car had no water pumps, water was circulated by percolating the water and that part of the equation did not work well, as the car ran hot. Was an interesting article, and probably I have added nothing to the discussion here, but some one may want to look it up. I believe there was a complete car featured in the article.

The little English Ford 4-banger I had in my Model-Y had no water pump & it ran fine - never overheated. You could nearly always put your hand on the block even. There were some inline water pumps made by the aftermarket & I bought one for the little car before I knew much about it - I never installed it. Didn't need it.

Color me surprised then. I need to get to Garlits' place again (haven't been in 20 years)...
