Has anyone recovered any funds from Mitch Maris (aka Skibo) or know this guy from Northport Florida? At least 6 HAMBrs got ripped off for a few hundred bucks by this guy. Seems Paypal is not much help when you get ripped off unles you bought the item through E Bay. Internet purchases are quite risky when you get scammed. There is a web site, IC3, where the scammer can be reported and may help to shut the scammer down, but you are still out the $. Credit cards will refund but how would one pay someone on a site like this with a cr card? We have info on this guy, where he lives etc. Anyone have any ideas how to make his life miserable legally without paying thousands to a lawyer? Any instructions on putting a lean on his real estate? Other posts on this matter have stated, 'press charges on this guy'. Is there an easy way to do this. Point is, when doing business in cyber space, be careful. Don't have an answer on how to be careful - maybe someone has some ideas or can relay personal experience.
you have his address and phone number?? My first thought would get me landed in jail if caught....my second is something I heard about in the NAVY many years ago. Post an ad in the Phillipeans newspaper (or maybe a few gay websites too) asking for a new lover and be sure to mention money being no problem as he's willing to support a whole family for the right person! Don't forget his phone number and email addresses!
That kind of **** isn't going to help you and will just get thir thread locked faster than a discussion of Boyd on the Salt Flats. The way to get some action is to involve the local police in his town and the postal inspector. Rather than spout off, his victims need to post the phone number for his local police department and everyone affected needs to call them and the USPS.
HAHAHA..maybe won't help but would make his life a little miserable in a different way. ...and since you've been on here a whole 6 months thank you for sharing your opinion on the hamb rules.
Got a notice that Paypal ruled in my favor. Mitch Maris (Skibo) conned me out of $140.00 for parts he advertised here and never delivered. Paypal refunded $0.87 (87 cents); isn't that awesome protection for using Paypal. Be careful when sending monies in cyberspace! Most car part sellers, especially on this site, are great fellow car enthusists and would never rip you off. Then a newbie like Maris shows up and ruins it.
John; As I just told you in a PM, I talked to Maris a short time ago at his house. He had all of the parts boxed up and ready to go to the post office in his van. I advised him of what was going on here, and told him to make a post on the main board, as well as PMs to those that were waiting for parts, to explain and apologize for his lack of communication to you guys. He said that he would get the items in the mail Monday. He also said that he had two sets of spindles, so if there were worries that he was selling the same set to different people, you should be good to go if you bought spindles. He is aware of the desire to prosecute him, and I ***ured him that I would help you guys in any way I could if he reneged on getting the deals done. Hopefully this will get you guys your parts, and close this problem. Mutt
This is Skibo, I am here, I am not a scammer, or a con artist. Rest ***ured that this matter is being taken care of 100%. The phone # listed is a very old number (land line) have not used it in 2 or 3 years, it must be re***igned to someone else. I was not able to login to the Hamb until today (Sat) Ryan is aware of the situation Fellow Hamb Member Mutt knows where I live, we visited today, I showed him the Boxes of parts ready to be shipped, waiting on shipping addresses, I had a computer problem and was not online for a long while, I recieved Paypal payments but had not written down the shipping addresses, I was waiting for Paypal to post to my acct, then the computer went down. I could not login to the Hamb as I was banned during that time, I found a email with Ryan's email address....contacted him, he let me login to explain my problem. I have contacted some of the folks already today. I ask all of you for forgiveness, and in no way wanted to cause the Hamb or any members any trouble. We have a great bunch of Rodders here selling, helping others, and trying to build rods. Thanks for reading, Mitch Maris <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________ 1981 Malibu Cl***ic
Just a thought for those of you that have been scammed. File a police report. If the item is more than $400, its a felony and since the transaction occurred over computer lines, if it crossed states lines, it could be federal. If the amount falls under $400, if enough people file a complain that totals over $400, it could still be prosecuted as a felony. If nothing else, the police could contact the seller and discover the cir***stances. Then they will track the activity. The reports get fax'd to the agency where the seller resides.
