Took my wife out to breakfast this morning. After eating we were on our way home and p***ed a sign advertising an auction. I was going to work on the Poncho today and she was going to work on the painting prep for the dining room. I asked if she wanted to stop and look around to see if anything there was interesting and she said sure. That was 9:45 this morning. At 7:00 we finally stopped dragging stuff home. I bought an old Smitty toy truck, a couple of old Johan RPU models and Men and Ladies Restroom signs from an old gas station all for less than 25.00. After about 3 hours of endless gl***ware and my wife buying a patio set I decided it was time to stop spending and head home. On my way I p***ed a pile of stuff and found a 60 Olds Promo and also a 58 Belair Convertible, stayed long enough to buy them:D . I left her there and went home to get the 66 F100 to bring our little treasure home. When I got back my wife met me and said "Don't be mad...I spent another $40.00". I asked what she had bought and all she said was "the ba*****t".
I didn't say anything..we're in this together you know! I went into the ba*****t and looked at the mess "we" had purchased. Box after box after box of (ugh) gl***ware and old (many antique) household items as well as many art deco and retro things. The 3rd box I picked up to lug to the truck caught my attention, I opened it and there they were ...22 Johan and revell Promo Models ( mostly Mopars), old custom models and metal toys, Vintage games etc.. All in all about 8 boxes of that kind of fun stuff. I couldn't believe it. She had started going through "her stuff" so I decided to rest. I picked up a magazine that had fallen out of one of the cabinets, an old car rag...I started getting shakey...cover said HOT ROD MAGAZINE...March 1959...opened that cabinet right up and there they were, HRM, Motor Trend and many other car ***les, not to mention LIFE and about every other car/mechanical mag you can think of with many beginning in the 40's.
It will take us 2 days to clean this ba*****t out! I can't wait to see what's in the next box. We are going back tomorrow PM and back all day on Monday!
Did I mention I love my wife?;)

Wow, if I bid and won something like that it would probaly be stuff I would have to pay to dispose of. Sounds like you got a hell of a find, congrats!

Nice score man, those Promos depending on condition are worth some $$$$ research well if you sell them.

Lucky find. I love getting ahold of vintage car mags. Great feeling when you look through them, and I feel like you learn alot more about the way a certain engine will work from those old mags.

We will probably sell some of the promos. Not sure which ones or when. Right now I'm just having fun going through the stuff. One model box had nothing but water slide decals for models. All sorts of scallops, pin stripes etc. Found a 58-59 0r 60 T-bird model that was painted like the Air Force Blue Angels with their decals on it....different!
Going back this PM for another load!

I'm so envious, I should be ashamed of myself. LOL. GREAT SCORE !! If those promos are in nice shape, you can make a pretty penny on e-gay. (If you want to part w/them) Either way, enjoy your new toys! Savor the time, days like yesterday don't come along often. Isn't it funny how sometimes you just fall into this, when you least expect it? BTW, take GOOD care of your wife!:D

Great score, I go to auctions almost every week and occasionally get some car stuff cheap because nobody knew what it was but around here there are enough people buying toys to keep or resell that they never sell like that. Last batch of models I hoped to bid on ended up selling for about 250.00 for a good sized box full. PS, good woman ya got there too, my ex used to go to auctions and swap meets. Note the past tense.

If I have time I'll try to put some pics up tomorrow. If not then hopefully this weekend. We're supposed to finish it up tomorrow and maybe we will get done in time.

My Buddy picked up this sweet back-light sign at an auction - It was on the garbage pile! He asked the auctioneer why it wasn't for sale and he said "you mean you acually WANT that? $20 and get it out of here"

  20. That's the way those auctions work, and why they're worth going to. I went to one at a garage and guys were getting whole sections of stuff for $10, $20 a shot. NOS exhaust pipes and lots of good used parts went right into a van to go straight to the s****yard. Anything no one wants goes in the garbage -

I went to an auction this weekend- nothing but old license plates. Bummer huh? One guy's collection spanning a lot of years! (1918 to around 1978 or so). Mostly Wyoming plates- dealer, vanity, psc, car and truck but also plates from all 50 states various years. Very reasonable even the early plates. Example: a nice original 1918 Wyoming dealer plate went for 25.00. The auction went for six hours!
