Whats the difference between Historic Document and a Title and which one works in Florida? Did a search here and found a lot of them but not what the difference is. thanks from the curious who may have to use one.
Historical Dcoument is a way of selling a good title and supposedly ebay and people like that dont recignize it as a legal title.. Ebay wont let you sell a title so you sell a piece of history but if you buy one chances are that depending on what state your in it can be transfered into your name.. Bottom line its a title or one of those new york registrations that can be transfered also.. Dave
A lot of times it is frowned upon by some state laws to sell a title. And sometimes historical documents turn out to be titles which turns out to be what we are looking for and other times turn out to be a registration card and a bill of sale,,, Here in South Carolina the DMV will no longer accept a New York registration card and a bill of sale,,,title only When you spend 500 bucks buying a worthless piece of paper believe me you ain't a happy camper,,,you don't have to ask me how I know! I would advise you to check with you local highway DMV before spending your hard earned cash.HRP
So, anybody with a 1973 or older car that moves from NY to SC is basically SCREWED? DAMN! A lot of states were late to the Title Game. Thanks for the heads up.
Those NY registrations seen on ebay for 32's that have dates from the 60s 70s 80s and even 90s make me wonder if they are just old registration papers from cars that are still out there with the same VIN. It would suck to spend 500 on one and then have your MVD tell you that that car is already registered to someone else??..in another state?
IIRC, Florida allows a bill of sale for title transfer on cars that are older than 25 yrs old...no title required. But look into it - you can find all the pertinent regs online at the FL DMV website...it's been a while since I've lived in FL, but am still technically a FL resident...
The short answer, someone has to verify the vin. You can have that done at an auto dealership. You get the form from the DMV.
I help out a lot of guys that have a hard time getting titles. I have a shop and I will make a bill for "work" I have done on their car. When they don't "pay", I file for a mechanic's title. 60 days later, I have a clear title to send him. I've done this about 45 times so far.
