i've been wanting to have some stripes done on the stude but figured i'd give it a shot myself . i must have striped and whiped 30 times HA HA so many times that my buddys now call me stripe n whipe , the ****in *****s . any way this was attempt #30 i guess and the first one that i actually finished the design before whiping it off . it is still a little asymetrical but i like the human element of it being off a bit, or i would have used a sticker . i didn't use a guide line or anything but i think it would have made it easier , i was just to lazy to leave the shop to go get a pencil . so here is my first ever striping attempt, achieved only a few hours after putting a striping brush with paint on it in my hand for the first time . any suggestions or comments welcome . i actually may do some more of this . it was fun.

That's great man....keep at it. What type of brush are you using?
Sounds like there MIGHT be a "how to" this week on here for Tech Week. that would be good.

i was using a mack 0 that i trimmed down a little so it was more manageable . i cut about a 1/4" off the end ,and believe me when i say i have no proper technique or any idea what proper technique would be . i hold the brush different everytime i pull a line and go in different directions each time and i did this leaning over from the edge of the truck towards the center ,from the side . i will be doing some more to see if i get any better ,but mainly i just wanted to be able to do the striping on my truck myself . .thanx for the compliments and please any seasoned stripers if you have any advice ,i'll take it .

WHY would you do that ?

1/4" off the tip, making it shorter from end to end ?
Or 1/4" off the belly ?

i cut it off the top side of the brush back at where the bristles meet the handle . it made the brush shorter but didn't effect the belly .
i asked a pinstriper once if they made shorter haired brushes and he said that's what he did to make his shorter ,so i tried it . seemed to work well.

way better than the **** i was doing..the first couple times..hahaha just ask around ..
you picked the hardest thing to paint on ..round with grooves ..

check out other stripers work .most don't strart with a straight line right in the middle ..

    good luck ...

  14. Nice 1st/30th effort. the on ehting that confusines me more than the t******* of the brush, though...you said you were too lazy to go get a pencil, and yet you striped, and re-striped, the thing 30 times? Seems like a s***ch in saves nine (or 29). :( Nice effort, though.

It's not that he was too lazy to get a pencil..........it was that he secretly didn't want to become reliant on a tool. ;)Too many times I've seen painters at shows, doing it for years and still reliant on a pencil.

If I remember correctly, you asked for EXPERIENCED stripers opinions on your work.................you got what you asked for. Now you're playing the smart *** punk?

Barnett's an AMAZING painter and striper, you are just a newby, who's just adopted an at***ude?

Time to start down shifting there hotrod.

    whooaa brandy
that is why i don't like internet communication. there was absolutely NO at***ude there at all that was me having fun and mainly picking on myself, i meant absolutely no disrespect or anything even close towards anyone(especially Barnett). it seems my innocent humorous responce was somehow lost in translation and i would imagine that Barnett would give me a talking to ,himself, if he thought i was being a disrespectful little *****. i DID ask for experienced stripers opinions and i welcome them and their advice . i didn't think i was giving anyone a reason to attack my "SMART *** PUNK" *** or my status as a newby , but being a newby here , .....what do i know ? note to self: (insert JK or HA HA or LOL or little smiley face icon here so everyone knows your kidding)

Brandy thanx for the insight as to how internet fights start and in my defense i can drive , and know when it is time to downshift.
    JK, LOL, HA HA. :) :) :) ;)

Barnett please , if you are willing to share advice, please do so ,i'm all ears , or deaf eyes actually in the case of internet communication.

as far as the cutting of the brush if it confuses you ,and you are in the know ,then it must have been bad advise that i got from someone else . and as far as the being too lazy to get a pencil it is because i actually couldn't find one at the shop at the time, i would have had to stop what i was doing, clean the brushes and tins , and get in my truck and drive to the nearest store (10 miles) to get one that is why i said i was half kidding when i typed it .

now that everyone knows i'm not a punk can i start being my sarcastic self again ??

  23. Brandy is my bouncer. I take her to all the rough places on the web so she can keep people in line for me. ;) Sometimes things do get muddied online. No harm, no foul.

As for brush t*******...if it worked for you....GREAT! Personally, I've never had more than moderate success with any brushes I trimmed. I just get 00 Macks Series 10, and start to stripe. For the first jobs with a new brush, I try to find alot of flames to outline...that way, by the time I'm done with that job, the brush is pretty well broken in. :D

Like I said...keep on keepin on. That job you did looks better than my first year or so worth of striping!

Brandy....I'll send out your paycheck this week. :D

thanx Barnett i'll keep practicing on my **** but again i really just did this so i wouldn't have to say someone else did it everytime someone asks . i bought my truck project and the top was already partially chopped . me and my buddys slaved on this thing for nearly two years and i hate it when the first thing someone asks is "did you chop the top yourself" and i have to say NO . they don't ask if i had the motor and ****** in and out of it 50 times , myself, or if i sanded and painted the dash 5 times to get it the way i wanted it,myself , or if i spent countless nights laying awake trying to figure out how i was going to get the perfect stance on this thing ,myself, or if the custom frame and suicide doors and zillion and 5 hours of fab work (other than top chop) was done by me and my buds. no they don't ask anything but "did you chop the top yourself" so i'm crossing my fingers and hoping that someday ,somewhere ,someone will say "who did the pinstriping for you?" so i can say ME , I did it , myself .

oh and brandy , if barnett didn't smooth things over in his post i think i coulda took ya !! . jk lol ha ha :);):);)

    jus kiddin brandy :)
