Sorry I don't have a picture. I had a 63, with a 292 and a 3 speed. It had a short flair side bed. I loved it but it had terminal rust in too many places, so I let another guy have it, who had better rescources to play with. My uncle had a 64 with an 8 foot bed. His had a 223 and a 3 speed in it. He used to haul a good sized camping trailer with it, but it was a little rough on long hills. Good luck with yours!
My old Unibody from 1976. It was a six auto custom cab posi rear radio delete all original no rust ever factory paint. Truck was rear ended by dumb *** in Memphis.
Plenty of threads on these trucks.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/search.php?searchid=2524740 also a website dedicated to them www.slick60s.org
I have a '64 with a 302 from out of a 93 Econoline, I put in last fall. Ive had it for 4 yrs now and since made a new bed, tailgate, floor pans, bench seat, red steelies, white walls, numerous paint jobs, new suspension, and four inch exhaust with flame throwers. I love my truck and wouldnt get rid of it for the world.
This body style was used from 1961-66. The 61-64 had a beam axle with dual springs. The 65-66 were the first Twin-I-Beam years which lasted about 30 years.
Here's a pic of my '64. Cleaned up Y-block 292 with headers and electronic ignition, 3spd Toploader, Ford 9" rear end, lowered 3" up front 4" out back. Do you guys like it?
I popped a set of taillight lens out of a 61 on Saturday in a junkyard.there is a Merc truck about the same vintage there also! Also liberated some back gl*** for early 50,s Dodge trucks,a drivers door gl*** from a 46 Dodge, back window from a 64 GMC truck, right front 51 Merc car door.....the list goes on.No shortage of old trucks on the farms up here!
65 had a straight axel too - 66 fas the first year for twin I beams - mine was a 65 short wide bed - 352 with auto trany - oak and tucked interior - ford marlin blue - nice truck untill it got mashed on the way to and all ford show in Murfressboro Tn. don't miss it much now though - we go on
Actually, no, the cab mounts are as solid as they come. There's no real rust anywhere, just surface crud and corrosion. I know what you're thinking, and its been brought to my attention a couple times. The truck was hit from the front at one point during its life, and the crash caused all the front sheetmetal (fenders, hood) to get jammed up a little bit. Look along the styling line down the side of the truck. Its straight from end of bed to front of cab. And then the fender/hood line is slightly pushed upward. You can only tell when you look at the truck from that angle!
Haha Matt, you knew exactly what I was looking at. Yeah I had a 62 uni thats front mounts were all jacked, sat like that.
Heres my '66 Merc crew cab. I got the clip in, C notched the rear, mill and trans are in, brakes are just about done..... basically all the fab work is just about done. Should have it on the ground soon. I have a few more of these trucks and will be buildin another soon. -Shiny
My buddy had a unibody twenty years ago, nobody I knew had ever seen one before. When I was at the Roundup this year, I saw several of these year of trucks, ALL were unibodies. Go figure.
This is a 61 Unibody i built for Steve Owens in Santa Ana. Vette Front & Rear Suspension, 460/C6. Goes Like Stink
Thats going to be a cool little truck when your done, but I'm fond of crewcabs. Plus I applaud you for building it on a dirt floor, cause thats too hard for me- I like concrete.
I have a 56 big window, but always wanted a uni-body. This 64 was at Goodguys in Nashville last year, one of the best looking I've ever seen. It like mine used NO airbags
We're building one now for a shop truck. I don't have many pictures of the whole truck since it's still mostly apart. Here's a shot with the front clip on but not bolted down. and here's a shot of the front clip and engine we put in it. 1977 Lincoln Mark front frame section. Power steering & disc brakes plus the 460 power plant.
I've got a 62 (I'll post recent pix later). How do you guys get it so low? I'd really like to get mine dramatically lower without bags.
My 56 has a camaro clip with dropped spindles and if I remember correctly, the 64 had a Mustang II set-up.
