What would be the coolest/easiest shoot anyway to make a fully removable rear fender for a 48 Chevy 2-dr sedan??? You can get access to over 2/3s of the factory mounting spots from inside the trunk....I have some Ideas but would like to throw out this challenge to see what some of you guys gals can think up!! Let the brain storming began!!!

    -COS

P.S. I would like that the only way to be able to remove it would be through the trunk area.....

hinge it at the front edge with a latch at the rear that you access through the trunk.

Dzus fasteners mounted in the trunk. Flange the fender towards the inside where you can't see it, and attatch the fasteners there. Basically the opposite of how you would mount them on a race car.

I thought of this to, but am having trouble with how to attach the front of the fender.(no way to get to the front of the fender to attach/detach from inside of interior of car)...I.E. some kind of way to slide and lock the fender back and or down in the front and then Dzus fasten the back where you can get to it in the trunk....

get some fender bolts or hardware of the same size and grind the heads off, make them tappered to a blunt point. install a few into the body just on the front 1/2 of the fender area, then just slip the fender onto the the pins and use stock hardware on the rear half.
play with pins and bolts, you could probably use more bolts then you think and still take the fender off.
also you might want to put a nut and bolt on the fender where it meets the running board.

Two or three hood latch ***emblies. With the female side mounted to the body and each with a cable release. The male end mounted to the fender. To install fender, snap in place, to remove, pull cable release. Or hinge front, rear or top and hood latch opposite side.

keep in mind the practical aspects of this mod...

you'll want to be able to do it quickly, and by yourself. would **** to have to call over help to remove the fender to check tire pressure.

aslo, if the fender comes off the car, you'll have that to deal with! if the car is to be finished with nice paint, you'll have to carry around a special fender blanket to lay the fender on...once you have a "fender blankie" it's a slippery slope and the california car duster jokes won't be far behind from your friends.:D that's part of the reason i suggest a hinge. are you gonna be running a rear bumper? if so that will make it much more difficult. do a little research on hinges, articulated ones and such, look at cars at junkyards for ideas. another option is those cheezy "lambo door" kits. then you can make the fender pop out a few inches then rotate up for tire access.

You know how Lamborghinis (and some hooptie/tuner cars) have doors the slide up like scissors? what about doing that? Or have the fender pop out, then up? This was my wife's idea for our merc... until we sold it.

make the fender slide into the trunk like a garage door, keeping all hinge and track in the trunk?? Or just make it like a hood or trunk set up with hinges and a latch

I lke the idea of the the hood latch up on the front part..maybe in conjunction with the the ****erfly quarter-turn fasteners in the trunk....

Running a rear bumber so the hinge thing is a good idea if I can get the clearance Clarence... I would like to think of it as a "Pontoon Sock"

Those are also a great Idea but man expensive and maybe a little over built for what I am doing it would be cool to get a scaled down model....also do not know about the clearance either....

 I need some of that stuff you are smoking man!! LOL I heard that Boyd calls this the "Bread Box Treatment" It would be cool to have it hooked up to a garage door opener you could check tires at the push of a ****on!!

Thinks for all the GREAT IDEAS fellow HAMBERS!! KEEP THEM COMING!! MORE!! MORE!!

use some 33-4 ford trunk hinges in the front with the already noted latch in the trunk. 33 hinges have a U shap that would push the fender out away from the body when opened, just like the trunk lid.

How about studs in the body with ****onheads on 'em, and keyholes in the fender itself - like how you attach a telephone to a wall? Use rubber weatherstripping to give it a little pressure against the ****ons, and then you could get away with only one Dzus fastener inside the trunk. One quick twist of the fastener in the trunk, and the fender lifts off from the outside...
