I've been waiting for this one to go. Sad note The Salvage yard onwer said it would be saved, But yesterday it ended on top of the Crush Pile. I did look at the car early last week & it was really rusted & only a 6 stick. But all of the stainless was untouched. I'm still thinking about getting the narrow 9" out of it. But why buy another?
"why buy another?" Uhh....maybe because they're not making 'em anymore? Maybe someday you might need one? Maybe because somebody else could use one and you could sell it?
S**** yard owners have no imagination.....even if it were too rusty to be restored, what a great promotional item. Paint it, letter it and place it out front as a sign for a business! A few flowers in the bed and it can be p***ed off as "landscaping" LOL
Well...they say ya can't save them all...but when your talking about something as special and nice as a 50's Ranchero...I dunno. Thats a shame to see that going away when its lasted so long.
That's what p***es for unrestorable or unsavable out there? Ship me a truckload. But make sure they're intact and not 6" tall first. I mean hell, if he's crushing it, what's he gonna get... $400 tops? Wave some $100 dollar bills at the guy. It ain't crushed yet. Clean it up a little, get it running if the motor turns over, and throw it on eBay for $1000. Once it's gone, it's gone, it's not coming back. Any time I get a chance to grab something like that I don't even hesitate. That's why I have like 50 ****ty cars and no nice one. But that's a good 48 cars that would have been crushed if I hadn't bought them, or would still be sitting in the spot where I found them.
What a shame......a waste of a nice piece of machinery.I would have bought that in a second. By the time anything like that hits a s****yard up here its just trim,gl*** and rust....
That ****in blows.. I could use the trim, the gl***, gas tank, and more. The rear end is worth as much as he's gonna get for crushing it..
OK I talked to him today & asked him to hold it. He said OK That it will probably go to another one of their yards if they save it. If they crush it it'll be about 2 weeks. I'll get the rearend if the car gets crushed. If it does get crushed I'll try to salvage trim bumpers etc.... The salvage yard owner does understand & already took a nice 57 Ranchero to save. I put that on the For sale for him on HAMB but had little interest. That 57 is still available.
Looks like it could have been a good parts car. When I was crying the blues about a nice '59 Ford 2 door at a destruction derby he said "it's just an old car" and he's a Car Guy!!! Maybe not?
Cool that he will hold on to it. Guy I work with loves AMCs for some reason (lol) and there is a nice hornet at one of the s**** yards he deals with a bunch and they wont sell him the car, everything on it can be had but not the carbody. ****s if you ask me. I could not own a junkyard because I could not crush a car with any possibility of coolness.
It should be illegal to destroy cars built before 1970. What a waste of great items of our history. Terrible shame.
I dont understand this stuff... EVER. Car crushers just dont get it. How about first, crush all the piles of **** under it before even thinking of crushing that cl***ic ?????????? What also gets me... the upper quarter panel roll was straight before they put in on the pile. Look at it. Im surprised they didnt stab it through the front/rear gl***
About 15 years ago i worked at the local s**** yard. I had to ouit because i spent most of my pay on stuff that i thought should be saved. I bought my 64 chev 3/4 ton for $100.00 We are still using it as a wrecker daily.I made a 700 mile trip in it last summer. It is unbleviable the joy some of those guys get by crushing a cl***ic and seeing and old car enthuasast get upset. Nowadays that place flattens every car that comes in immediately. He said that way nobody can steal parts . Trouble those guys have the money and guys like us cannott afford to buy them all and many dont have a place to keep them OldWolf
A little off-topic, but years ago a friend and I discovered a farmer's landfill with a 57 Ford convertible and a 55 Chevy hardtop piled on top off it! they'd been taking up useful space in one of his buildings and had to go! Go figure!
You guys have way too many cars around there if you don't bother to save a ´59 Ranchero. Just buy two damn minivans for $50 and trade 'em with the s**** guy, it's the weight that counts for him!
That got crushed while I was in Michigan in December. The only thing I was able to purchase was the 9" rear. He's setting those aside for me. He wouldn't go under $200 for the axle (that I sold to a HAMB member for the $200 I got it for). ****s about the stainless trim & the gas tank though. He also just pulled in a really rusted apart 59 Retractable that will get crushed as well. I've got that axle saved. The other yard in town just pulled four more pre 1962 9" out that I'll get in exchange for welding. I find that persistance & willingness to help works only with some people.
ridicoluos,if you're still in time throw him an old junk car or coupla 100's bucks for the weight and SAVE the thing...looks very restorable to me... what a shame ,makes me sad... i'm too far away otherwise i'll have bought it....
