OLD 58 IMPALA CUSTOM--HITS ROCK BOTTOM?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by scarliner, Oct 17, 2004.

  1. It's a real shame that it has deteriorated so much, but hats off to you for giving one last chance.

Sure would be nice to see it in its former glory.

Where's Christian? He'll probably have some idea on the history.

You don't really want that ugly old POS do you? Cuz if not I'll take it! [IMG] Seriously Reggie, great score man! Gotta keep it wild. I'm sure someone on here will come up with a picture of it in it's former GLORY. And I'm sure some other HAMBers would be willing to help when you run into a problem puttin' it back together. Wish i was closer. [IMG] Love the front view. Way better than stock.

    Good luck! [IMG]

medium gold mettallic(not flake) pearl white scallops and roof. www chrome reversed with bullets...i would go with more of a zocci, or dagastino look.but on a wilder car.i think the flake is starting to get a little over done.takes away from how well that car was thought out coz all you can see is the flake.. just my humble opinion

THis is just my opinion being a 58 impala owner. I never liked them over customized. Mild was ok in my book. But since its already been butchered, leave it that way. It would cost to much to restore anyway. Goodluck! Satin

I don't know about those taillights being Cadillac, I think they might actually be '60 Oldsmobile.

WAAAAY too small to be 60 Olds.

  12. neat find, have to share a comment from my snoopy 3 yr old grand daughter that was looking over my shoulder, went as follows " think that car has an awee". have fun with it hope you find some history. [IMG]

im willing to bet those tail lights it had were either 60 or 61 cadillac lights from the tail fins. im leaning more towards 61 though! great score..

To me they look like '60 Olds taillights, but same difference.

I'd swap even a couple decent stock '58 Chevy hardtops for that car, they're not that hard to get if you want an original. As a custom it's a totally unique piece, and some folks value the history on it. From the investment standpoint it could be worth twice as much as the average 283-powerglide stocker, redone with the history sorted out.

This doesn't look like it's a tough one to redo, at least it's not like some northeastern swiss cheese machine -

That is sweet. Super preiod car. That is the stuff that usually winds up butchered or dissappears because it is turned into a monstrosity.

    Congrats and get to work.

  15. An idea: How about putting in a photo and a request for its history in your local newspaper? (if you brought the car locally). Then you maybe can get in touch with the builder or someone that know the car.

How about a couple of you photochop gods, put some color, and some WHEELS on it for him? Might make it a LITTLE easier for him to track down the history, with a color photo. One in GOLD and one in white/purple scallops,or visa-versa?

Great score, Bro...I'd keep what's there and just refurbish it, keeping the mods, just making the whole car look fresh again.

(And yes, a W-motor is THE engine for that car! [IMG])

Ya already got a stocker, Dude...

Damn, I like this 58!I got a lot of little books and all, and I don't remember seeing it, but I don't have them all. That rear end really turns me on. The back end is real creative, I would have never thought of that if I tried! Hopefully its got some nice metal work underneath if you decide to keep it like it is . Put some Buick wires on it and a Ed Martinez style interior...........you never know.:D

  22. Keep it pure! I have a friend who has 4 - '58s in his back yard that I am trying to get. 1 convertible (348), 1 hardtop and 2 - 4 door part cars. Actually all four cars are complete but the floor pan in the convertible has suffered from the elements. They aren't as rare as people think most of them are just sitting in unusual places (barns, granny's garage, or in this case in a retired GM workers barn).

Yeah, looking at the pics it definitly looks like the same car. The fins and the quarter scoup treatment are identical, It must have been an earlier version of the car before the front end treatment.
