    Love it!! Sits perfect!!

How do you like the Schroeder box? Been thinking of running one, but am starting to reconsider. Would like an HONEST opinion of how it drives with it...

  5. This is a 6" cut exactly, from the rear and the posts. Your windshield will end up with 5.5" viewable gl*** at that, the gl*** is actually about 6 1/4" but 3/8" is in the frame on each side.

I was going to move the rear window hole completely and had it almost all the way cut out, then it dawned on me to mock up the angle channel and seat arrangment before I got it out & it ended up right at eye level. So I welded it back up.

How you fit depends on if you channel it too. This is angle channelled , 3" rear to 4 3/4" in the front. I'm 6' 1" and have to hunch over a little, it's not really that uncomfortable, but the seat is right on the floor also (with about 3 1/2" of padding that squishes down to about 1 1/2" with weight on it). Either way, I wouldn't take it down to less than 5.5" inches of windshield. Even a beer can is almost 5" tall.

  6. I love it. The suspension is stiff, it doesn't lean so it really corners like a go-kart. It's a 1/4 turn to do a 90 degree corner, it pretty cool actually, it just carves. S curves are fun.

Two things though, on this truck, with this weight on it, it's not too bad, effort-wise. I bought it for my 34 coupe and had it installed and hooked up.....then sat the blown hemi in.....with the straight ribbed Firestone dirt trackers on the concrete floor, it felt like it might take the incredible hulk to turn this thing. Even with both hands trying to turn it, it's very hard. I think you're going to have to let the clutch out and inch forward while trying to turn it when parking or leaving. The price for cool I guess.

The other is, in this application, I made the steering arm with a high offset, which let me make the Pitman arm about 2/3 as long as they have it figured, it's 5.5" center to center. That slowed it way down. On the 34 it'll need to be 2 1/2" longer, and even with the super high offset steering arm I made for it, the drag link will run down hill a little. Bump steer isn't a consideration when you've only got 3" of travel. I ran it through a range of 4" up and down (2" each way) and it didn't move the steering wheel hardly any. So don't worry about that "the drag link has to be level or it'll bumpsteer" stuff everyone repeats. On a sand rail or pre-runner that has 12" of travel, yeah, but not 2". The only other thing about the downhill drag link is, it doesn't look good. But there's nothing much you can do if you want to use a Schroeder box, you can't place the whole unit much lower than I have it in the 34 or the tip of your shoes start getting into it when changing feet on the pedals. And I only wear 10 1/2" shoes, a guy with 12's would have a problem where it is in my coupe and have to place the unit higher and make the drag run even further downhill. But mainly, it'll be way faster with the longer pitman, and I haven't driven a coupe with a long arm.....3winLarry says his drives just fine though, and others have them with long arms, so I kind of go off of that.

All in all, ****yzing how this drives and steers, and figuring double the weight on it, I'm going to have another one made for the coupe, I think I can probably manhandle it;).

Nice work. Just enough to be radical, yet still drive on the road.

I have always liked the styling on these trucks. I have been collecting 35-36 parts for a long time. My driver will have fenders but a shop truck may just be built this way.

    Nice job.

Thank you for the great reply to the question!! You addressed just about every thing that was running through my mind. Looks like I have some thinking to do. I was weighing this VS. and F100 box because of the ratio and the overal price of the box.

How does it do at higher speeds?

  10. Beautiful job! I just love this truck and took a bunch of pics of it at the Pileup.

    Real nice piece, man!

This truck was one of the coolest at the Pile Up. It was hard to get the pics I wanted of it. Was that you in the building behind it? I think ya may have been eating lunch when I tried to get a back end shot of it. I really liked your truck. :)

    You ****!
That's what I wanted my 37 p/u to look like but I didn't have the patience to finish it and sold it.
Oh well. At least I know how cool mine could have looked. HA HA HA.

Now I kinda wish I didn't sell mine.

  16. Thanks.

And to think this truck almost didn't make it out of Nebraska. Turned out great man. Better than I had envisioned....
