Astro front end for an upgrade?

    Anybody here done this?

    I was talking to a guy I used to teach with and he was telling me about how he put one on his early chevy PU -- said he just had to drill four holes and bolted it in place.

    Rack and pinion, disc brakes, etc. all in one package.:cool:

    You mean Astro van? They have a welded frame and a steering box mounted vertical. Monte carlo based suspension.

    I seem to remember they had dual idler arms that went bad fast.

    An Astro subframe is REALLY wide. I thought about using one for my cabover, but it was like 8" too wide. It would be cool to use one from an AWD Astro.

    Its not an Astro van, they didnt have rack and pinion.

    They do. Moog replacements are beefier to address that--how much longer they last I do knot know.

    I usually have to replace one every 2 years or so on our shop Astro, BUT a great little truck (van)?

    I'm in the middle of installing a Aerostar clip in my F100 right now. It's only 1" wider than the stock 64 f100 front end.

    Are those front clips heavy enough for the weight of a bigger motor and body?
