Is there any distributor or anything that sells parts for these motors? I know the HA/GR guys use the straight 6's and not alot is still available for them...but what about 8's?

Check out the "Inliners International" website. I don't have the exact address handy, but if you put "Inliners International" into your search engine, they should pop right up. You should get some good leads on parts there. I know for sure there is plenty out there for GM sixes, as for eights, I'm not sure.

the 261 chevy will give you the most bang for the buck. the slant 6 is not tradional enough for me and the straight 8,s are cool but pricey.my choice for a 8 would be the buick.

do a search here! this comes up all the time. You can get stock parts at AutoZone, as well as aftermarket suppliers like Filling Station. Langdon's Stovebolt Engine Co is and EXCELLENT source for hopping them up

Thanks hellfish, I guess I am not using the right words in the search as I tried stovebolt, inline 6, and a few other terms. I will look into the stovebolt company you listed!

There are plenty of rebuild parts available for old engines like these from Egge Machine (www.egge.com) and Kanter Auto Parts (www.kanter.com).

Yeah, the 261 should be your first choice. One of the nicest things about them is that if you come up with a block and set of connecting rods, you can cannabilize a '54-'62 235 for everything else (***uming you'd be buying new pistons regardless). Also, modern standard transmissions can be bolted to it using cheap and easy to find factory parts---try doing that with any straight eight!

Dude, I love the Chevy 235 and 261's. They are all I'll ever use in any of my cars. I guess some would find that stupid but they don't call me "the 235 kid" for nothing.

I have never run with a 261 and I'm sure they are good motors, but I have run wuth 270 and 302 GMC motors and they are better. They fit in almost anywhere a 261 will go and are lots better engines. IMHO
