An update on the dragstrip deal at Charlotte, the city of Concord has rervesed there decision as of this morning, and the dragstrip will be built after all. An NHRA national event will be held there next Sept after Indy. I'll also be at the goodguys, I only live about 20 minutes away....

  2. Re: Bruton/Dragstrip "uproar"
Less than 2 miles from LowesMotorSpeedway is where the old Concord Dragstrip was located in the 60's(It's now a "cul-de-sac" housing dev.) Spent many a Sat night there...Ronnie Sox,Jake King,BuddyMartin,Dyno Don Nicholson.Phil Bonner.Hubert Platt,etc,etc.. all ran ther at one time...the most memorable was the Sat. that Tommy Ivo drove in with a Cadillac towing the Twin Buick rail and a young Don Prudhomme as crew!!
Seems strange now that theres so much flap about a dragstrip in the neighborhood...Concord seems to be OK with the money the track generates for the local economy by having all the circle track /carshow events

I grew up about a half a mile from Shuffletown dragstrip. We would come home from church on Sunday, we would see them racing, and we would have to come back. You could sit on the hood of your car and watch. It got shut down for noise.Do you remember it being a dirt dragstrip? The good old days .:D

  4. I certainly do remenber when S/Town was dirt..my barber named "Scratch " Whisnant used to run it on the weekends..we used to sneak in hiding in the trunk of a '40 Ford coupe...Went to get a haircut one day and Scratch nailed us for sneakin' in ...When it was dirt ,the cars backed up to the roadbank and just showered Hwy16 with dirt....Later it was paved & remnants of the pavement are still there ...Not for long ,as houses are being built all over that property

Unfortunately, I will be missing this one, for the first time in about 6 or 7 years. I always have a great time there and usually hang out with the Poor Ol' Boys from the Mooresville area. I hate that I have to miss it, but a new job and lack of enough vacation time made the decission for me. Hope everyone has a great time and post some pics so I can feel worse about not getting there.

  13. How do they arrange parking when you arrive? First come ......first serve or what? What about some covered parking...just some relief from the blazing sun.

Unless your one of the "privileged" few the parking is first come first served and there is no real covered parking (its the infield of the raceway). Usually the weather isn't to blazing hot the end of October so take some sunblock and enjoy yourself

Thanks for the input.......I may just bring a small tent.....so my GF's boobies don't get too sunburned :D

    Hey.. I'm going
I'll be there Friday. Maybe part of the time Saturday..??
Hope I can see some of you folks on Friday... I'm staying with friends north of the speedway.

  22. Leaving Thursday morning 8:00 if druss32 shows up on time. May hit the Fatman Open House if we get there early enough, they are open until 6:00. Will try to get set up early Friday in a good spot for the Saturday meet and greet. Hope to see many HAMBers.

Once again look for a yellow and white '57 Chevy Belair and a red '57 Chevy pick up. And the HAMB banner.

Did see a real neat 40 Ford pickup ... at the Texas RoadHouse ...

  25. Me and the Mrs. are heading that way in the morning,,,,probably in the rain but I've been wet before,,,

At least this time we will be in the 32 pickup instead of a topless roadster! HRP

Talked with a friend who lives a mile away from the Lowes Speedway ... it is still raining ... but it is suposed to be good on Saturday ( only a 10 per cent chance of the wet stuff :D )

Hope they do NOT reschedule the d@^# Cup car rides for Saturday Like they have in the past.

They are so noisy it ruins the show.

Got there about 9 am ... ground was wet ... and it was real foggy.
Sunshine broke thru about 10 or 11 :)
Saw HRP and a few other HAMBERS ... Talked with Dick Spadaro ...

    Had a good time ...
