I have a 350/700 r4 setup in my truck. it sat for about a year not being driven, tryin to get it all running and driving so I could possibly do a motor/****** swap in a new project or sell the car for funds to buy said project. So heres the deal. The trannsmission has reverse and it has first when i put it in drive. It will not shift from first to second, although I can do it manually. I checked the fluid and it was clear, no burn smells, and i believe full. What could it be without dropping the transmission or having to have it replaced? Please help Ryan
quick checks...make sure it's really full, and not overfull. Check the cable adjustment and action carefully. If you can get to the governor cover on the side of the rear of the case, pull it off and see if the governor gear is still intact.
have you adjusted your tv cable. the easiest way to do it is put someone in the car and tell them to floor the pedal. of course when the car is off then get a pair of pliers and pull the cable and make it tight as possiblel then drive it. Brant
the tv cable hasnt been messed with at all. I also havnt added any fluid to it. At first I thought it may be fluid because it sat for so long. I need to run it longer i guess and see if it is fluid first. If it is the governor gear, how easy is that to replace?
sounds like the tv cable to me too. could be stuck on the pan end. i would give it a few sharp tugs, no too hard, then readjust the cable. dan
I had a Corvette that did that---reverse, no shift out of low..... The speedo gear had all the teeth stripped off of it Easy fix once I figured it out....but never figured out WHY it happened.
