Looking for any info on a 1939 Ford Kustom with Lincoln Zephyr fenders, built around late '40's, earlier 50's. Used a boat theme in design
Hi, I saw that ride at Goodguys in Ft Worth, for sale....good luck hope you find something, like to know myself....Dan
A friend of a friend of mine here in CA owned that car at one time. He had it at Paso 4 or 5 years ago. I think he put the flathead 8 in it and made it a runner. Pretty sure it had a V-12 in it at one time. He didn't pass on any info???
I'm pretty sure it spent a few years stored in one of the barns at the Pate Museum of Transportation in Cressen, TX. A lot of the cars were sold at an auction in the '90's after Aggie Pate died. The museum is still open. They may know something about it.
Hope you can get some info on it, Just a note... Those are NOT Zephyr fenders, They would be more like '47~'48 Lincoln Continentel. It will help you find out history if you first figure out what you have purchased
It looks like one of 2 cars I saw in Texas on the way to the Lonestar Roundup a few years ago...I got off the main highway (10 I guess) and was looking for a gas station in some small town...there were 2 cars very similar to that ....sorry I can't help with any details on yours though!
I have to agree. I saw that car and took a few pics a couple of weeks ago at the Goodguys Lone Star Nats. And for the life of me I couldn't figure out why it was built. Or for that matter why it is still around. On the other hand... It is a custom and I love a custom with history. No matter how much I might not like the car itself. That is just my oppinion. If you like the car then more power to you. Have fun with it. I am looking forward to the rebuild. Post lots of pics and keep us updated on any history you find
The back bumper looks like a '53 Ford car front bumper. The backup light is a Guide accessory for 47-48 Chevys. The grille is the top part of a 47ish Nash. Front parking lights look like 42/46 Ford car. Pretty sure those mirrors are Yankee aftermarket units. I like it, I'd like to see what it would look like restored.
See if this story fits. Around here there's a story that Ford was having a hard time competing with British/European sports cars after the war. GI's returning home were hungry for an American sports car. Chevrolet had the Vette on the drawing board but Ford had nothing. Story from a local Ford dealer's son is that Ford sponsered a competition between dealers to come up with a sports car prototype. I have a couple pics at work of the flatty powered 2 seater that our local dealer built. A friend told me there was another for sale at Iola a couple of years ago. Could this be another? Does this make sense or are all the drugs from the 60's kicking in again?
