So i wanted to contribute something to the TECH Week, even if it might be a no brainer. i posted a request for photoshop and HAMBer aabbcco shot me out a really cool set of scallops. so i took that pic, blew it up, and printed it. i had some white in the garage that would match the roof now, so i figured i'd go for it. best way to learn, right?! first i gathered my supplies. paint....DUH! 1/4" masking tape, 2" masking tape, level (or straightedge) rag, tape measure, a soapstone pencil, and soda! then taped my idea picture to the side of the car. then using the straightedge, and tape measure laid out the lines with the soapstone pencil that way the lines can be easily manipulated and moved around. take your 1/4" mask and make lines, i try to keep the same strip of tape going as far as possible to avoid a bunch of breaks, especially in high visibility areas. trim the inside corners with a NEW razorblade. then stand back and look. if things aren't right now is the time to adjust your lines. after the lines are set, mask the crap outta the area! (you like my tire cover??) go over every corner and make sure there are no bubbles in the tape, or anything else that will botch the paintjob. wipe the soapstone off with your rag, and paint your scallops! i wait about 5 to ten minutes and peel the tape, and there you have it, homemade scallops! now on to the rest of the car!!!
Yup, done that before. Those are going to look good on your Wildcat. Posts some pics when you're done!
i did do it on the rear as well, it looks awesome. but it's dark out now so i'll throw a pic up tomorrow. i also puked my radiator tonight, so thats GREAT! eh well
I have painted some helmets in the past, You may want to try 3M tape for your edges, I dont know the name of it, I got it at a automotive paint store, It is blue and makes real clean paint lines, it comes in different widths.
heres a link to the photoshop post. a bunch of good ideas, and i'm still planning on another "real" paintjob, but this will do for now. i was thinking about a striped outline as well. heres the link http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216105
Nicely done. Are you gonna throw a little striping around those scallops? BTW, what green did you use on the body?
it was green when i got it, but believe it or not, it's rustoleum...! ugly but if you reduce it a bit it comes out looking ok for around $50. like 7 or 8 bucks a quart, and about 1 1/2 quarts per car. then consumables and crap. perfect base for me to try scallops because if they dont come out right i wont be messing up a pricey paint job. i probably will accent them with some stripes, maybe this weekend if i'm not busy. thanks for the compliments, i wasnt sure if this belonged in tech or not, but it was something i did, on the cheap and i'm happy with the results, why not share
Yeah man, that looks great! Car looks like it has the same roof line as a '62 Impala. Is that right? I dig the flat roof on those GM cars. -Troy
thanks! yeah i think the roof and quarters are the same as impala. as i'm sure a bunch other parts are interchangable as well
Quarters are different. There's isn't really much interchangable on the two makes. Different trim, drivetrains etc.... Looks real good man. Nice job on the scallops. Todd
