Does any one have pictures of 1941 chevy brake lights on their hot rods? I am looking at 1939 ford tear drops or the 41 Chevy. I am leaning on the Chevy. BC
Either look good ... I suggest looking at this site ... they have the optically light re-designed ones and really are a VAST improvement over the stockers YET still look like the originals. JimA ... ( Hamber here ... sells them ) http://www.autofiberoptics.com/product2.htm
I have been promoting the white painted light buckets in early cars for over 30 years after seeing a little rodding hint in R&C or SR or RA or SRMX. "Optically light re-designed" indeed! Sticking the sockets in the housing sideways has been done for years by rodders for clearance between the rear panels of 28-32 Ford roadsters and coupes. Good for them for their entrepreneurship, but BS on that big redesign discovery bidness.
If you closwly at the photo ... ... you can see where they ... DO ... differ greatly than the stockers ... ( at least the 39's do ) ... they are shaped to reflect all the light ... and the area behind the lense is also larger. This photo above ... shows how small the hole is where the light shows ... on a original 38 - 39 Ford taillight. This is a original but shortie ... shortened by me and with a side mount side ( I have a rumble seat ) On the these ... almost the entire lense shows RED ... and much brighter also
The difference is slight enough to be negligible. Just by painting the interior of the housing gloss white the lense itself will transfer the light over its face. I've been doing this to lights for many years. When we did it on my son's 57 Chevrolet BelAir 2door sedan the first event we to had many rodders of 50s Chevys asking us how we had achieved such good lighting. A can of spray Appliance White, a little masking tape, and 2357 bulbs(brighter stop than 1157) do the trick! Again, I have nothing but admiration for someone who markets an idea that rodders have been doing for many years, but none of the original style manufacturers woke up enough to do themselves even after it was pointed out to them. But a "new" idea...no.
LED's are good too....these are much brighter, last forever and when the lights are off, you can't tell they are LED's. The Teardrops do not have a screw showing on the bezel for a really smooth look. http://www.shiny-hiney.com/rodcustom30.html Chevy: http://www.shiny-hiney.com/rodcustom4050.html 51FourDoor
