I mounted a mini Nippondenso alternator in my hotrod down low alongside the engine and I want to verify the wiring schematic to make sure I hook it up right. There's one fat terminal that goes to the battery for charging, and then a round three prong plastic connector. I know the three pins are for Ignition, Sense, and Lamp, but I'm not sure which pin is which and both sides of the connection don't have any markings on them. I cut out about a foot of the harness from an old Toyota in the junkyard to get the round alternator connector and pigtail. The original Toyota wires in the harness going to those three pins are a 20 gauge black with a yellow stripe, a 16 gauge white wire, and an 20 gauge yellow. If anyone happens to have schematics for an older Toyota with a Nippondenso alternator, I'd really appreciate it if you could check it out. I think this mini alternator originally came in cheap Toyotas and Toyota Forerunners from around '86 to '89 and also in Suzuki Samurais from around the same period. I think it puts out around 60 amps. It's nice and small and has an internal fan. Thanks! I'll be posting some pictures of the brackets I made later in case anybody else wants to try to mount one of these little guys.
Try this site http://www.f1-rocketboy.com/alternator.htm I used it to do the same conversion in a '62 T-bird. jerry
I know exactly what you are looking for, and I have it......painted on the door of my old work van which is sitting at the shop 30 miles away. I'm a Toyota lift truck tech, wired a few of those small alts with internal regulators, easy like pie !!, but with out referancing the pin out, I can't remember which is what ( which is why it is painted on the door of the van, I don't do custom install very often ) http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h8.pdf Check page 5, I think it'll have what you are looking for.
Thanks a lot guys! So for anyone else doing this swap someday, going by those two websites and looking at my alternator and the connector that hooks up to it, the stock Toyota harness wires are: Black with yellow stripe: Ignition White: Sensor Yellow: Lamp The big screw terminal is for the fat lead going to the battery. Thanks again!
