Got a 53 chevy 210, trying to get the electronics out, what kind of screw head do I need for those on the firewall?? It holds the little box on the back of the dash. Jason
Must be clutch head if you think they're weird. SOld in sets by most early Chevy parts dealers as well as by Seasr individually. The indent in the head of the fasteners looks like an hourgl***?
Sometimes a normal screwdriver will hit the flats of a clutch drive style screw, or I've made a driver when in a pinch by cutting the end off a phillips screwdriver and grooving two notches in each side on the corner of a grinding wheel.
Can't help but wonder: What kind of "electronics" have you discovered in a 53 Chevy? I'm unaware of any electronics outside of the radio-which had vacuum tubes in it.
On the firewall, driver's side there's a panel that's screwed to the firewall itself with clutch head screw's. On that panel is the voltage regulator and condenser. I think those too use the clutch screw's. I can't remember if mine did or not.. Anyway, that's probably what he's talking about..maybe
Some NAPA stores carry clutch head drivers, or you can get them from Jim Carter's Cl***ic Chevy. You probably have three different sizes on your truck.
Electronics is a loose term, but its the condenser and all the **** behind the dash into the firewall that I am talking about. Off to napa I go, thanxs guys. Jason
Well worth the investment, especially if you're playing with Chevy's from the '50s and early '60s. I've got three new Snap-ons, and then the biggest size is a very old Snap-on that came from my dad's tool box ("Octo-Grip" handle). I also have a clutch head tipped socket that I've used several times on an impact driver. It's the same size as the largest one I have--used for the dimmer switch and barn door hardware on my '62 Suburban. The little sizes were used rebuilding Holley carbs. From Snap-on, they weren't that expensive--I was surprised. -Brad
you don't need to get fancy. I've bought CHEAP screwdrivers from the sale table at AutoZone/Murray's/etc with the multiple excahngeable tips. They came with 3 different sizes of clutch head. Any good (or cheap) tool store should have them
