There was a severe wreck this morning involving one of the racers and one of the track volunteers. It happened at the end of the course and was a head-on collision. Speed was about 80 mph. Both guys were injured, I heard of broken legs, ribs.. One or both were airlifted to the hospital. I hope they survived. The staff was pretty tight-lipped about it. These fellow rodders and their families need some prayers tonight.
The car qualified at Bonneville for the 200 mph club, the patrol car was a light blue International Scout II or Travel-all.
From SCTA web site: Donnie Cummins and Jerry Bates were airlifted to hospitals after an accident involving a roadster and a patrol vehicle. The roadster seemed to stray off course due to wind, dust and sun glare. Both are expected to be released in a few days
