just a quick note to say i hope everyones ok, we had the voluntary evacuation call awhile back, and it's getting pretty dark with smoke here so we'll probably start packing some junk up pretty soon if the wind continues in this direction. hope everyone makes it out of this one alright.
Keep safe!! I am in Bakersfield,Ca. left my house today at 6:45am it was 46 degrees drove 5 miles and the hot winds came up and it went from 46 to 70 in that short of distance. Crazy! I know its not going to be good on the fires.
Damn scarry stuff. I've got several freinds possibly in harms way out there. Good luck to all and stay safe.
pretty much all packed at this point just waiting to get the call to head out or not. the news stations ****, they keep interviewing people about how they saw the fire or their house burned(which yes is very very sad) but they aren't really telling us exactly were the fire line is. the fire chief did say he wouldn't be surprised if the fire reached all the way to the coast before it was over with. right now it sounds like it's about 3-5 or so miles from us but with wind gusts at 30-40mph is could get here any second. really ****s about bucks place, i was wondering if one of or all of his yards would get hit listening to how close the other fire is to romona. is he in town or in az.? the computer will be the last thing to go if we have to as were getting better info off of it than the t.v.
i second the news station bit. we are less than a mile from where the santiago canyon fire started.....the news station just reported it had jumped the freeway, when we could see the flames about 2 miles farther south of it....we were struggling for information last night, luckily it kept going to the south of us. im in the area, let me know if you need any help or anything...
I've been watching it on TV... it's all you can watch if you have the TV on. I'll say GOOD LUCK to all you mountain men too, but in the aftermath, the insurance companies will say "it was an act of God" like they told Barris when his shop burned...
that realy would be a damn shame... justin took me over there. ill stick my neck out and volunteer a truck in the advent he needs some extra hauling help.
most of my family still lives in SD, been getting emails and phone calls all day from them as some are having to evac. 4 years to the day. damned Santa Ana's
yep...had a great day up at the hollywood hotrods open house. ...only to get a call from my girlfriend while we were on our drive back. sure enough we started smelling the fire and seeing ash all over. made worse by the fact that we driving back top down in a 63 galaxie. i was pretty much brown faced with soot by the time we made it home. listening to emergency svcs channel right now. all resources are on evacuation and containment is 0% on seven fires in sd. hang in there so cal. check in with your friends and act smart.
From a news story I just read: "In many cases, crews couldn’t begin to fight the fires because they were too busy rescuing residents who had refused to leave, fire officials said. “They didn’t evacuate at all, or delayed until it was too late,” said Metcalf. “And those folks who are making those decisions are actually stripping fire resources.” Wind-whipped flames can rise up and cover ground much faster than you can. If it's a voluntary evac, load your stuff into two cars and a trailer if you've got it, and get the hell out of Dodge for a day or two. If it turns out you didn't need to evacuate, then consider it a small weekend get-away. Run around the house with a cam corder and take pic of everything for the insurance guy, then get in the car and drive away. You can replace most anything but your health and life. Good luck, and God Speed. -Brad
My heart goes out to everyone effected. Like Brad said, get the hell outta Dodge. Your stuff's not worth your life.
Prayers are out to you all and God's speed. My son is a Morro Bay Firefighter and he's had a pretty busy year, now he's in Malibu or Ventura (don't know for sure!). I heard that they don't have enough people to fight all the fires there. Stay Safe.
I'm a Firefighter here in deep south Texas - from personal experience I can tell you - fire moves faster than you can, if the local departments ask for a voulentary evacuation - pack what you can and leave. By the time evacs are made mandatory it's usually not enough time for everyone to get out. My prayers go out to those in harms way, and I hope this all ends soon.
Hope everyone is OK and smart enough to evacuate. Remember, nothing is worth more than your life. Wish me luck. I'm on a strike team of Engines and we're leaving Nor Cal here shortly to go to the fire in Malibu Canyon.
was at my Bro's this weekend....north west of the fires (Lompoc) and the wind was un****ing belivable he's a firefighter at Vandenberg AFB some of his crew are out helping with the fires also.....God bless and like some have mentioned ....if you even think you should evacuate the get the hell out ...while you still have a chance
it sounds like we're going to be fine at this point, i talked to some firefighter buddies and it sounds like the smaller fire that was close to us is pretty much under control, they even let the people that had the mandatory evac. call go back home. hopefully they can get the bigger ones under control soon as they're heading west towards us but are still probably 20 miles away but as of right now they are 0% contained the one closest to us has already burned 10,000 acres and the one down south is over 20,000. pretty much just watching the news, and waiting for the reverse 911 call if it comes, plus i've got a few buddies that will call me who are closer to the fire if they hear or see anything. we are all packed if we do have to get out in a hurry, unplug the computer (i drew a wiring diagram so i can figure out how to plug it back in, yes i'm computer stupid) and throw the dog in the truck and we can get out of here in under a minute. even if we don't get the evac call i think we'll probaly go stay with my aunt for the night just so we don't have to keep watching the news all night long. unfortunetly several friends are pretty sure they lost everything, one probably lost his lakes car and a couple hot rods/bikes plus his whole machine shop, and it sounds like it might have gone right over restoration supply company out in east escondido. luckily everyone i've talked to that's had the mandatory evac has gotten out saftley but it sounds like the property loss will most likely go into the 1,000+ homes/ structures for san diego county before they get everything under control. we are watching out for ourselves but really keeping all our friends/ relatives in our minds as well hoping everyone makes it through all this ****.
Good luck to all affected and thanks to the fire teams for helping out our friends and loved ones. I was in Montecito this weekend visiting family and it was crazy...windier than I've ever seen it and there were ashes everywhere Bryan
The fire is right by Higgs housing in Malibu, I haven't got in contact with him, I'm sure he's been evactuated. My work was closed today, maybe even tomorrow. PCH is closed between Kanan Rd. and Topanga. Really ****s how fast this has spread.
If anyone gets stranded and needs food shelter or anything, my home is open. God speed and don't wait gather now that which means the most. Lost a home in Montana in the 80's and still feel the effects. I have a single wedding picture of my Mother & Father that I took off the mantel along with a few artifacts from NFL days, and ran out the door. Thank God for that as my Son and Daughter and Grandkids it's all they have of them. Call if needed 661-3879332
kinda a sureal day, we had a voluntary evac since 6am, we still aren't 100% in the clear but feel comfortable staying the night here, latest new is 145,000 acres burned in the north county fire with over 600 homes/structures lost. sounds like it made another p*** through romona and is now heading south towards lakeside/ el cajon. they just did a mandatory evacuation for the towns about 10 miles south of us all the way to the beach, and a friend to the north of us that's on top of a hill can see it coming his direction but probably still 20 miles off. at this point i have know idea how many of our friends east of us are going to still have a house in the morning. good thing is the wind seems to have died down quit a bit and they're getting most of the smaller fires that were poping up under control. the fireman neigbor is back home and he's comfortable staying here but i'm leaving the truck packed overnight and will leave the a in the driveway for easy access so i can move it away from the house/ any trees if we do get the call. still hoping every makes it through this ok but it's not looking so good at this point.
