the Goodguys idea, for better or worse, seems like a reasonable way to deal with the lazy, selfish early bird type savers. But, personally, I just don't go to shows where I don't feel welcome or there are too many of those type of people anyway - just not my kind of show. The shows I like tend not to have much of that kind of stuff or people. I don't want to park where someone might not want me too and have to worry about my stuff while I am gone. I dislike those space saver types, but I am just fine parking in the less diesireable spots and sort of prefer it anyway. When I was little, mom would drive me crazy by driving around a parking lot or the block several times to get the spot right in front of where we might be going, when we could have just parked a little further away and walked in more quickly most of the time.
I'M HARDLY EVER IN ONE SPOT LONG ENOUGH TO NEED A SPACE. I LIKE TO DRIVE MY CAR AROUND AND SEE EVERYONE ELSE. PULL UP AND TALK GO TO THE NEXT GUY PULL UP AND TALK AND SO ON O/t ...hey Kirk, It's "next Week" Any Word On The Dates For Bowling Green. Reggie
O.k. Thanks. Didn't Want To Side Track This Topic. It's Hard Finding A Spot At Pigeon Forge Even If You Show Up On Tues. Reggie
I live near Newark Ohio and when the Mopar Nationals are going on they cruise the main strip and it is hard to find a good spot to park along the strip so you can sit on your bumper or what have you. Me and my buddy showed up on a Saturday like two hours before the cruising started and some one had put some chairs in a spot toward the curb. I stop and ask the cars beside those chairs if they belong to anyone in the area. They did not so we layed them down and stuck them under the back of my ride and set up our chairs. Those people who owned the chairs showed up four hours after we got there and two hours after the action started and were like "oh, our chairs are still in this spot. I just gave tham a side glance and went back to watching the cruising action. Give me a ****ing break, how long did you think your fold up lawn furniture was going to hold a parking space.
If one of our club member need a spot saved we would ask the host club if it would be ok if they can hold a spot for him/her. And they would have no problem with it, it did happen a few times already. And when we host a show we look out for other club and you do not need to be in a club if you need a spot save all you got to do is ask. But there is usually a time limit, that we could let a spot be saved for, that would depend on how busy the show is. Not only our club does it, most clubs do it. That's the way it work in Connecticut.
At paso this last year some old guy was yelling at me for taking his buddies place, he said his buddie had parked there for 20 years and I'm going to take his place , some guy you are. we ( beatniks) came in as a club , we were all together and in line. we didn't get our spot as they changed parking rules last year. which is fine, but to have some old dude yell at me was kinda stupid , I'm really not going to move now ! but as he kept on my ***, reminding me that I TOOK an 85 year olds spot . My comment was well then he'll be dead soon and it won't matter !!! I felt kinda bad but come on dude, saving a spot in the middle of the park at paso, NO WAY. ol' timer should of been there like the rest of us. turns out it was for magoo. oh well
screw cars i am gonna get the sweetest chromed out chopped channeled sectioned pancaked *** huggin lawn chair around. leave the cars at home everyone really goes for the chairs anyways.
I have never been to a car show are we talking about those lawn chairs with a cup holder or the ones made with the multi colored nylon webbing I like the ones with the webbing they remind me of my grandparents.
I was at a car show last month..........I got there the day before. I parked my car in the show area. Some friends showed up early the next day (registration started at noon) and they wanted to park by me, but there were chairs and yellow tape put up in four spots. I asked one of thde host club's members what was up with that, and he told me they had received an e-mail requesting those 4 spots! I just looked at him, I couldn't come up with the right words! After a few seconds, he just grabbed the chairs and tape and took them away, saying that's just not right.
what if the guy took the time to clear 1 foot of snow from the space...er, wait a minute, that's winter rules in chicago and then it's not a lawn chair but something substantially heavier, like a chair from the dinette set.
Yeah when I got my issue at the office, I was laughing my a** off, one of the funniest editorials I've read in a while.
Parking is always problem ..Don't suppose trying to enforce any rules will really help too much Like one person said , then someone just gives yah a kick when you are not looking What I can never understand even more than lawnchairs .. People that "pose" the said vehicle that they cherrish , taking up two or more spots And more times than not, its not going to gain any attention even if it was on a turntable Having Good Guys shows in NASCAR tracks is allot like being in prison for the day
LMAO!!!As they get older, they should get there sooner. After all they've got less time left, better use as much as they can.Remember,"LIFE IS LIKE A ROLL OF TOILET PAPER,THE CLOSER YOU GET TO THE END,THE FASTER IT GOES!!!"
What a hoot!!!!!!!!!! I'm bringing my Beanie Babies and matching trailer with neons next time.Maybe even some of those dolls that hide there head, whatever the f--- they are.Who's got my matching chair with a reader board? Dial 1-800 Hot Rod.
I think the first two hrs of the show should be no saving spots.. after that its open (for cruising) to being saved. no need to cruise the first two hrs as most folks are coming into the show and there is not much to cruise...
My Lane is 10x your La Z Boy. I'm gonna bring my truck and a sectional sofa with the built in fridge. Move THAT ****a.
FWIW, the custodial staff at the Executive West "collects" lawn chairs and, should yours be "missing", you'll need to go down the hall between the restaurant and the function rooms and sign your life away to get it back. Great editorial, and Kev was probably across the street and not at "West" and I don't know what their policy is over there. If you want to save your space, park your Mullins in it. The space'll be there when you get back. Been staying there for years and nothing's changed regarding lawn chairs. Leave it in a space and come back to find it gone. Not moved, GONE!
Went to ALL of them for 3 years- then I got parolled! Trying hard not to spend another day on the infield if I can.
Have you ever kicked one of those crying dolls or "little nobodys" as people call them....... ??? I've seen a kew get punted!
that is what I agree with, what CLUB would leave a member on the side of the road?? the one with all the chairs!! I showed up at Ameriruise in line with all the club members, wipped out my chair and proceeded to hang in the shade till noon. Noon is when the autocross started, and I had rubber to burn!!! I came back at closing time to recover my chair . Nobody put my chair in my parking spot, they did the smart thing and kept it in the shade!
The guy who wrote the book "Up The Organization" said this about executive parking spaces: "If you're so *******ed important, get there early." Wise words for car shows, too.
WOW Are car shows really this lame? I haven't been to a big car show as a participant. Mostly just local cruise night stuff. Old farts, lawn chairs, cry baby dolls...LOL
I put on a small (125 cars) show in our town park for three years on 4th of July weekend. On the show flyer it clearly stated "if you want to park together, arrive together". Simple and common request. So the local street rod club shows up and this guy parks his tupperware coupe and comes up to me and says, "My wife stopped at Starbucks, so you need to leave THIS space for her. She'll be here soon". So I say, "I don't know how I can do that because she won't be able to get to this spot as the other cars by then will be blocking her way". So then he says "Well, thats YOUR problem!!" There was no entry fee for this show, in fact, we gave each car owner a $10 credit to buy food and beer as a "thank you" for bringing their cars. Too much grief for me...no more shows on 4th of July weekends here.
