Hershey 2007 was going to be the 38th in a row for me, and I had things organized well in advance for the first time I can remember. Van was packed to the max with every unwanted car related item I had, and the Henderson 4 powered Midget was in there for display. Bluto and the lovely Mrs. Bluto flew in a few days before I was to hit the road at 7:00 on Tuesday, and we planed to meet in New Jersey and drive down together. A little over an hour into the trip I noticed my temperature gauge was peged, stopped to find a 12 inch crack in the plastic header tank! Cell phoned Bluto to let him know I was running late, I'm not into cell phones but found out there is a use for them. I've blocked out the number of times we stopped for JB Weld and water, but we pulled into noboD's drive at 5:00, took 10 hours to get there, 4 is normal. Finally got on the Chocolate Field at sunset Tuesday and dumped enough stuff out of the van so I could sleep. Wednesday noboD had a new radiator ordered from a local shop that does a lot of HAMB work and it arrived Thursday. I hate working on modern drivers. Swapped out the radiator without much trouble, but found a metal heater tube that runs through the engine valley was leaking. That was finally fixed with Mrs. Bluto doing the alignment of a part you can't even see! Trip home was fine. Looking back on things it was a great Hershey, but only because I have great friends on the HAMB.
Glad to hear that you were able to get it fixed.I was at your spot on Thursday before noon and no one was there .I walked another row and looked through to your spot and still looked like you were not there. That Henderson is going to be cool when you get it done.I'll try to catch up with you next year .Did you knock down a building with the back of your van ???
glad i got to bump into you on our little excipade through the show saturday sorry i didnt get a chance to stop by sooner glad you guys all got back safe Zach
That damage to the van was self inflicted, backed down a 100 foot driveway into an overhanging tree brach.
'37, maybe the next 38 years will be trouble free since you had all those problems this year. It's a week I'll never forget, what an adventure!!
Hey, Kid! Glad to have met you on Wednesday as I was walking round with ake Roberts........hope you made a million! Brucie
A Million WHAT? I rolled into the driveway with $27.00. I'm begining to think the bumber sticker noboD gave me last year has had an effect on the vans wellbeing.
I'm just sorry I didn't get to meet more of youse I can slose my eyes and still see the Van stopping in front of us! Even after a todays WORSTEVER trans-Atlantic flight with Losthasna Some Bean counter took all the paddin outta the seats!!! Who do the think they are? Virgin of Alitalia? It was dreadful Anyway nothing can take away from the hospitality that Mrs. Bluto and me recieved from Bob,Doug and their Mrs's You all really made us feel HOME! Thank You all so much! Autobahn tomorrow..........All day's drive
My guess is that the Me109 seat was ordered swapped in by the baggage handler sometime during his on site emergency hernia operation.
'37, do you think that baggage handler will be playing with toys on the ride over? Bluto and Mrs. Bluto come back again! Only about 350 days to Hamb and chocolate.
As my buddy and I were running through the Chocolate field about 3:00 pm Friday I saw the Henderson sitting on the corner and said "Hey! I know that guy". I was already late for a 3:00 pm club meeting over on the other side and never made it back to say "hi". I agree with you about working on the modern daily drivers, it was cool when I was 20, but as you get older it becomes more and more of a drag. Glad to see you made o.k., even if it was a bit longer trip then expected.
Midafternoon on Saturday I was under the hood of the van when this 1911 MERCER rumbled to a stop. The owner climbed out and told me to get in and drive it over and into his trailer! I've dreamed of driving one of these since I stood in front of one when I was 10 years old back in 1961.
I think that's the one I saw in the "parade" going in to the show. He was pumping the fuel like a maniac, made me wonder if it had any other fuel pump running. Unless, there was some other pre WWI race-about there.
