I think most affected is Northern San Diego County. Escondido, Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Ramona are all being evacuated last I heard.
This fire storm is a lot like the Cedar Fire of 4 years ago...swept in from the East and drove damn near to the coast across the northern edge of the city of San Diego. This one is worse, too much wind and too much smoke to get the air tankers flying...flames moving faster than a vehicle can drive in some places. Ramona down through San Pasqual (just missed the Wild Animal Park) across Escondido and moving West along Hwy 78. Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Santa Fe were hit hard, lots of homes burned to the ground. Here in El Cajon and along I8 into town hasn't been touched yet but there is another fire that is moving along the border from Potrero through Otay Lakes and pushing into Chula Vista. We had rain for a couple of years but none this year to speak of, lots of dry brush, 90+ degrees, 9 percent humidity, and winds of 35 mph gusting to 70 mph...just too many variables all lined up in the wrong direction. The first fire was said to have started when a power transformer fried out East of here in Potrero...winds are making the flames look like a blowtorch. My sister lives up in Irvine, they were hit...LA is getting beat up too.
This website is slammed - you might have to refresh it a few times to get it to load (F5)... but it shows a Google map marked with the fire and evacuation areas http://media.signonsandiego.com/fires/ - Joe
According to my grandmother who has lived in SD her whole life (b:1917) she had never heard of a coastal town in the county being evac'd for a fire.

Getting the family and yourself out is the big thing. A car in the garage may be covered by homeowner's insurance even if it's not covered by automobile insurance - sucks to have to leave it, but what can you do? When you gotta go, you gotta go.
Get what you can and get to a safe place. Life is more important than anything else. I lost everything in the Cedar fire about 4 years ago to the day. I was way out of town and when I got back it was like an atomic bomb site. Total and complete destruction that that you couldn't imagine right next to completely untouched properties. You can't second guess where it is going or what it will destroy. Sad to hear it's happening again. The HAMB has been very beneficial to me in getting back into the car scene. A change of direction but with the same passion. Best of luck to you in this horrible event. -Erik
i just got done running 25 phone and dsl lines for the CDF.they camp is in el cajon.i asked hoe the harris fire is to see if they are starting to get a hang on it.well he said its still a out of control fire.they couldnt get the planes up do to the wind.i hope everyone is getting out and being save.one of the guys i work with lost his house this morning and some of my family had to leave there house today.it just sucks.
Well i am back HOME And now MY Mom And Dad (81 and 86)Cant go Home so they are here with me. Hope there home makes it as good as mine did. Keep the HOPE UP for you all Dave
Dave...sounds like great news for ya! Power of prayers! Thanks to all who responded to location of fire(s) the web site direction holds alot of news! Man....this is just hard to believe!
most of my family down there has been evacuated. kinda have given up on some of the houses. still no details as of yet. but everyone is safe, which is the most important.
We have friends called Pete and Ladene Aardema on the hill in Escondido and we hear things are not good for them. Can someone let them know we are thinking of them and would help in any way we can from the UK. Bob and Glo
This is the kinda thing you feel like you are never gonna see happen in your own backyard (Literally) I've been evacuated, my brother and sister and law have been evacuated, my girlfriend and her parents have been evacuated, I feel like every friend I call has been evacuated. The hardest thing is not knowing what is going on at your own house. San Diego is amazing, the city is pulling together so much right now. They are saying as of now that over 1,000 homes have been destroyed in San Diego County alone. HAMB, please help all of us out with this, I know I'm not the only Hamber being affected like this. Please Pray for everyone involved in this. God has a way!!
Hopefully, Pete and Ladene are okay. Is his shop at the home property, or elsewhere? I can only imagine the irreplaceable stuff in that shop...just like everyone's, really.......
I have been watching all the news reports trying to find "CHUCK HENRY". His news van & equipment burnt up in the fires last go around. He has to be out there somewhere. They need to provide those news reporters with fire fighting equipment as they get right in the middle. Hope this wind lays down sometime soon so they can get some what of a handle on these blazes..
Good luck & prayers to everyone effected by this. I think if I were anywhere near this mess, & not already evacuated, I'd start filling the swimming pool with hand tools & cars & parts. JH
man i hate to hear about this..what a dam shame and a dam bummer too..you know there are going to be a shit load of projects turned to scrap because of this mother nature crap ging on out there..my heart goes out to you guys. I too have lost 3 projects all at one time due to fire..it just sucks. now after many years im starting over but its a slow painful process
pete's house is gone but it sounds like they got all the cars out ok and are safe. i'll let them know you're thinking about them if i talk to them later today.
Our shop has been changing cabin air filters (on the new cars) and engine air filters by the ton. This air is thrashing filters in just a day or two.
It's CRAZY here in San Diego. We are staring down the hill at the flames leaping up Mt Miguel. We are next on the evacuation, should the fire turn more to the north. Just finished videotaping every inch of my whole house and garage. I'm leaving the coupe and t-bird if we get the call. Family comes first... Steve
Confirming what Justin B said on Pete Aardema.I spoke this morning with aussie friends who were with him and helped move cars etc and they are safe. However the workshop and house are gone Paul
If I recall hearing the news correctly this afternoon the un-updated count from yesterday was over 1400 homes destroyed.People were piling up in a sports dome like in New Orleans. The last thing this country needs to deal with at this time is another natural disaster. My thoughts and prayers are with all that have been affected by these fires.-Drew
If any HAMB member or their family needs a place to go to for any length of time I've got a home with two large guest rooms and can easily sleep a dozen people in beds and cots. I've been hearing on the news that people are having breathng problems so if a loved one needs to leave the state they can come here. My thoughts and prayers out to everyone involved
