Anyone have pictures? Preferably early years, not sure which year had the tails that ran up on top of the quarters, but I love that back end. I have come across a sedan (i know i know) and I love the body style/tail lights on it. Just wanted to see what you guys have done, or have seen done to these cars. I want to say its like a 50 sedan, could be wrong though.

Also, which motors came with the tranny that matched the La Salle Caddi tranny?

Not exactly what you're looking for, but here is a period picture of my in-laws.

Yes Dago, like those you posted. It is a '50 sedan right? If it is in fact manual, the La Salle style tranny would be in it?

Thats about the shape this one is in, from the pictures. Though, it doesn't have the wheel cover/skirts. It does have white walls though. I'd love to see one chopped if possible,

That one on e-gay has a nice look. The chop could be a little more dramatic though. Looks like he had the glass cut down for it already, I would have maybe went 1-1.5 more. It looks sweet though, gives me ideas!

Although its not the best picture. Mine is a 51 with the taillights that come up the fenders.

Certain cars have such a following that it makes no difference what body style it is ... the '50 Olds 88 is high on the list.

I am going this weekend to check it out even more. If it is in fact a 50, I am going to see what we can work out. Something tells me he knows what he has. It's the only classic not shoved 30 feet into the woods with flat tires and grass seeds covering it. It may just be a new arrival though, I hope! Will take plenty of pics, of everything. Im a picture nerd.

It's a light blue color, faded of course, peelin in areas but worth keeping it how it is for sure. Dash is in great shape, as is the bumper up front.

Was the 50's trunk emblem different than the 51? That's the same style circular shaped emblem on the one I saw.

Well how bout this, what is there different between the years? Trim on the body? Emblems? If I do in fact pick it up, I want to know for sure what I have!

Great cars, Denise. I didn't realize there had been so many generations of Olds in the family!

'49 and '50 88s were very similar, with some minor differences in the side trim and taillights. I have seen a very few cars claiming to be '51s in the same body style; I guess there was some early production using the carryover bodies.

But MOST '51 88s look quite different: the quarter panel was flattened out, losing the curved line that suggested a rear fender. The side trim on the quarter was completely different, the grille was different, and the quarters were extended up and back in a nearly straight line, with the taillight at the top corner.

    This is a typical '51.

The easiest way for me to tell a '49 from a '50 is the '49 has a split windshield, only a very few of the first '50 models do cuz they used the left over parts for the first of the new models.

  29. Here is a shot of my friend's chopped Olds, and bike that I flamed. Sorry the chick got in the way.
