Contact Coker - they should make it right - they're a top notch vendor.

I've used them on 5 of my cars now and never seen pimples ???

  6. I bought a set of 4 of their "Original Mold" Firestone WWs (560-15 and 820-15) with tubes, for my 40 coupe about this time last year. Had the same problem, little tits all over them. Not happy, so while I was at the GGs show here last year, I went to their booth and questioned them about that, some 18 year old kid was working the booth and assured me they were using the "Orig" Firestone molds and they were all that way back in the 50s. Well I'm 67 years old and have bought lots of various brands back in the 50s and early 60s and NONE of them had this problem then, told the kid that and he assured me I must be mistaken. Their solution to the problem was to dismount them and pay the freight back to CA and they would refund my money for the tires only.
The tires have good bright white walls, look authenic as the orig ones, except for the tits. They did balance out nice, have put about 200 miles on them, and are still on the car, tits and all. Oh Well!!!

  7. Hi there

I ordered a set for my Ride.

They also had the pimples you described.

Problem is, I am in France, so I cannot afford the expense of reposting in order to get refund on the tires only.

Fitted to car and seemed OK. Just is visible close up, I guess. And I don't have a show car (well I do, but not this one), so...

    Bye

Ill get some pictures up later, who else are you going to buy from? I did a model a for a customer last year we used tires from lucas, they were real nice, but you cant get a small front tire from them, with the right tread and white. I usually run big fronts like on my cabriolet 670x15, but some cars need the small fronts

So is COKER the only game in town? That's a bummer if you can't get a desent set of tires even from Coker!

Try a company called Diamond Back Classsics. Last I delt with these folks they were in Conway, South Carolina. Put a set on my 37 slant back and they look great and the white walls are as white as snow and no tits.

I've also had good luck with Coker white wall Firestones for my 33 coupe no tits on those either.

  15. I've got those tires, and don't have any issues....maybe I'm not understanding what you're talking about.

    put a pic up someone....

Diamondback has a very good rep on the board, just doesn't give us the discount like Coker-there are a whole lot of threads on the Coker tires, and then the bisa vs. radial thing, look them up and learn. Most trouble with Coker seems to be with their radials, not bias tires.

Can you sand them out? I know that it would not be what you are looking for, but I bet they would "sand/buff" by hand out. Just a thought.

That's not as bad as I thought they would be actually. I've seen those on white wall tires before and never even considered it a defect. Is there a real issue with them that I'm not aware of or is it just asthetics?

    Maybe they're cold.:D

I haven't tried to sand on a tire before, but I would think you should be able to sand or buff them off, if they bother you. I thought about a sharp single edge razor blade (like from the parts store for gasket scrapers, etc.) but I figgure in my hands they would dig divots into the sidewall bigger than the bumps there now.

Pimples.. we call them tits, they ‘re mold tits from the relief vents. Pneumatic tires will have mold tits on their outer surface. These pressure relief vents allow any air trapped between the surface of the tire and the inside of the mold to escape so that the rubber can flow evenly through the mold cavity. There has to be plenty of vents or you’ll get air pockets or flow problems. These mold tits are trimmed at the same time as the tread tits, but specific to the Firestone tires with the Firestone log embossed in the white side wall, such as the 5.60-15 – they can NOT be trimmed as close without cutting into the lettering itself. Now there are wide white wall tires that don’t have tits. These are the tires that don’t have the logo embossed in the white wall; on these tires, the white wall is actually buffed smooth.
We’ve been building Firestone antique tires since 1993. We are using original Firestone molds; The finishing process is the same as it was in 1933.

Hope this clears up the confusion.

    Thanks,

    Jess

Coker should resolve this issue.I have bought many firestone tires in my years from Lucas tire in Long Beach, and have NEVER had that "Pimple" issue.
