With this move I've no much time for real car building. I just looked at the prices of steel hose ends and fittings Looks like my long term-get everything place just added a 0 to the price of everything....... just plain steel not stainless Anybody out there know a good mail order place for this stuff? Does a -4 B-nut now really cost $7.00?
Check out your local hydraulic shop. Parker and gates makes a bunch of fittings. They call them JIC not AN which means army/navy.
I would say your local speed shop would be the best place. Most of them have it in stock or get deliverys daily. That way you can peice it together there instead of making a ton of orders.
X2 for Aircraft Spruce, or if you plan on ordering ALOT, you might try Aviall. Their warehouse for Europe is evidently in Amsterdam (???).
Thank you for the help so far I can get local fittings they are metric and aircraft rated and very spendy I'm use to JIC and AN stuff my tools for flairing and bending tube are inch based as are my taps And I have a lot of hose and tubing here You guys are right about us being the largest speed shop in the area. There is a Harley guy here but that's it Most people restoring here are using copper tube for fuel and brakes All that said I'm still having fun living in this little farm town
holy schniekies Jim! glad to see ya doin well after yur move fella. listen, i know AN shit aint cheap but $7 seems kinda steep to me... lemme check locally an see what they fetch for steel ends and fittings... gimme a shopping list and an address in Poland and i'll see you get what you need pal Traves
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The AN thread is a particular type of fitting used to connect flexible hoses and rigid metal tubing that carry fluid. It is a US military-derived specification stemming from a joint standard agreed upon by the Air Force and Navy, hence AN.
JIC and AN have different angles on the flare JIC=37*, AN=45*......generally JIC is for Hydraulics and are crimped on the hose, but there are reuseable Aeroquip JIC fittings (bulky). Both available at a hyd shop......or AN's can be bought through Summit or Jegs.
Nuts and sleeves will seal on both JIC and AN JIC is OK but you gotta watch how they plate em But the question still is where the best place to buy-em? I'm thinking about this cause I've got to brake plumb there cars here Yes...... just like wiring I do this from scratch On this last trip I got 125ft of tubing.....NAPA brake tubing in 25ft coils are great! Please remember I gotta import everything. BUT I knew that when I moved here. Customs is gonna crap it's pants when it sees a Blowen Ardun in a crate They all stood next to the Miller for photos when we rolled it outta the container!
Where to buy.... http://www.anplumbing.com/shop/ Yeah JIC and AN are 37*... brake line is 45*....I had it wrong.
JIC is the industrial standard based on AN. They are compatible, but JIC parts are not made to as exacting of standards (and as a result, cost less) JIC are fine for cars. www.mcmaster.com carries a lot of JIC parts.
If push comes to shove call Godman's in Memphis TN. They have got the stuff and they know thier shit.
Earl's is a big manufacturer/supplier. Most speed shops carry parts, Summit and Jegs should have them.
speed shop, rod shop, museum of FINE autos... Jim, show em all a pic of the Mas... that thing makes the lil' hairs on my neck go straight <img>
Off the top of my head they cost well under 2 bucks for steel zink, alum (blue or red). I do have them in stainless also but those cost more. Still should be well under 7 bucks though. If I can help give me a call at 714 223 9322. Be sure to tell me you're from the HAMB. Thanks, Dave Bottomley Sweet Performance Products, Inc.
I've bought some very good plumbing supplies off of Ebay....USA, of course. ......I've got an idea some of the stuff for sell on Ebay makes it's way out of different facilities in lunch boxes.
