Even though they are basically fake hubcaps, they are cool ones. I mean they are old, steel, and don't spin. You should run them as long as you're not the type of person to brag about your "new 5 spoke rims."
The hubcaps give you the "cheese"and everyone else came up with the "whine". A set of old caps like that would be cool on a low buck type car. I run spider caps and trim rings on stock wheels with skinny stripe whites on my daily. Paint the stock wheels very flat black and run with 'em! Like Gotgas said,if you dont like them,30second with a screwdriver!
They're not as cheesy as the fake chrome reverse wheel ones. And they'd probably fool the average joe. Put 'em on, if you like 'em, run 'em - the only catch is if you lose one, you'll probably never find another.
I think they are pretty rad, that said, I would run them on a colored rim, to show that you arent trying to simulate a wheel with them.
I agree with Bloodandwiskey paint your rims body color and run em' The people who will apreciate it will be the ones who will know the vintage of the caps themselves. As a transitional piece, you can use them to compair "looks" from mags to solid caps without dropping $500 plus!
Not to change the subject or start a pissin contest, what is wrong with Olds valve covers on a Chevy? Now if you paint em up and use Olds Rocket stickers on them thats kind of lame in my opinion. Your trying to pass off a SBC as a Olds Rocket motor. However. I think the style of them and they way you route the plug wires is cool. Is it any different than running Vette valve covers on a engine from a Malibu?
I agree, If you show people your not a poser trying to fake your wheels, but that you think its cool that their fake it makes it even cooler to run them on the car, that made sense, right?
Those came out somewhere around 1964 as cheapo mag wheel wannabe's. No offense but we used to make fun of them.
Yeah, the "chrome reverse" hubcaps. Friend of mine is restoring a '65 Cyclone and paid some pretty good cash for a NOS set of those.
Hey, I'm from Wisconsin and we know cheese! CHEESEY!! Think about white wheels with baby moons or moons and just rims. Hubcaps are too much for car-takes away from it's good looks.
Cheesy or Cheezie, even it their day, those were cool, cuz they had that "custom look." Check out the back of any custom mags back then and you'll find enough cheese ... (self edit) ... It's the overall look that made the car "cool" or "cheesy" and not any particular item. Chopping a roof should make a car look cool, not not if it is ugly when you are done. I've seen people pay big dough for those fake "wire wheel hubcaps" and they look cool, too. Had a pair of wire caps on a red '64 Corvair Monza convertible, with white top and interior. It was stunning.
I'd just paint the wheels and run chrome bullet lugs,or spider caps. Those are a cool conversation piece, but I wouldn't run them. Especially if they wobble!!!
I like em. If they look good on your car, run em. I everyone thinks hubcaps are cheesey then they should toss their Caddy & flipper caps in the scrap pile. Tradition is doing your car your way. Not doing what the majority dictates as proper.
