I saw a speedster body built from wood, old canoe multiple plank style. It kinda looked like a cockroach. I no likee. On the other hand I plan to make a wooden jeep bodied go kart for my boy. I think I can pull off the wood body that way. You could do a wood frame and cover it with fabric and dope like an old plane.

Actually there is a 1932 Ford roadster all made out of wood,, that was just on ebay, the body, cowl, and a whole bunch of parts were built of Mrytle wood. The guy wants 100K plus for it, but I think people think it is cool and everything but, no one bid over 20K for the thing. Try to look it up and you will see it I believe in old listing, if you don't find it, let me know, and I will send you a link if I can.

Over the years many rodders have made their "unique" versions of woody wagons and delivery hacks from wood. The results of individual effort with very little input from outside in most cases.

  10. Wood cars? Here's the most badass wooden car I've ever seen....and it can be yours for only $185,000.

    Thoughts??

  11. I'm a woodworker, but I think this is tacky as hell. Yeah, great craftmanship, but.........

  12. I agree, and the craftsmanship is what's being judged. But non-the-less, someone's project was completed and hopefully this helped Rev. Greg.

Not my cup of tea either, but I sure as hell couldn't craft something out of a dead tree and drive the fucker around.

Not to mention this thing beats the hell out of the Soap Box Derby car I built with pops as a kid....

  13. Oh, and $185,000?? What's that work out to be as an hourly rate???? Damn...

  17. that'a boy. some ideas just get worse with age. (or as soon as you pull your head out) in some cases.

  19. There's a guy in the "First 12 issues of Hot Rod" book that built a 46ish looking Ford out of Plywood. It doesn't look to bad, but he didn't have alot of compound curves either. To each his own, I guess.

A friend (Kirk Duquette) owns WoodieWorks...

Builds woodies and wood based specials. The Freakster is a Deuce pickup he built. Website shows the various woodies he built.

  21. There is a great Lagonda, made of Rosewood (I think).

No idea how you would do it, but it sure makes an impression if you see stuff like that.

There was also some aweful rod made of wood on here recently, though I can't seem to find the post. Looks like a shop project gone wrong. Oh here it is...http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207288 YIKES

    Good luck, MRAK

Woody cool, Wooden bodies gay. Funny thing is if the aforementioned craftsman stuck to canoes or powerboats their efforts wouldn't have been wasted. It obviously takes talent but the car wood body thing is just plain ugly! I used to be a little on the fence but after reading this thread it definitely is lame.

Somewhere around here there is a 28/29 pickup that the cab is made out of wood. However it is painted and a casual glance probably couldn't tell the difference. I think it was coated with resin and sanded smooth.

Why not build a wood form and form a metal body over it ?or bend up an EMTsub structure and cover that with tin?lots of the origional speedsters were home built over a bent angle iron frame work.I have a couple of books here from pre 54 that shows construction plans for home built midgets and such which is basically a mini speedster body

Anybody have a picture of the woodie tub the kid from northern ca. built in his woodshop class? I think it was in rod and custom and was bare metal with some red wheels. I have plans for a woodie or two soon.

Thats why I have to build everything my self.Current plans are to get a new carb for my '79 f-100 and Gut my mazda for the cage while I finish the new motor.I enjoy the Ideas from everyone. If I can I will starton the speedster next year.I just need to get this new contract later today.Freelance machinist=poor

I am currently attempting this little feat. Basicaly a model A speedster replica on a home built chassis. Will be glad to share the set of plans I have with you. They are really general plans based on a modet T running gear but readily adaptable.
