There is no "high ground" in a wild fire.

Video of the house in that first picture has been shown on the TV news over here in the UK, apparently the guy had a collection of cars and the whole lot went up. I guess it was a case of save your *** and as many as you can drive. That has to be heartbreaking. No insurance payout makes up for the time and effort and love put in to your car.

My wife is from Nashville so I understand the mentality, you cannot compare what you know about TN to anything here in SoCal. When was the last time you went without rain for 9 months? When was the last time you has humidity of 8 or 9 percent? When was the last time you had 70 MPH winds blowing in a single direction for days at a time? What people who live "on the hill" in TN has no bearing to what you are seeing happen with the fires in CA. Maybe you could try comparing it to a tornado in TN and that would work better...there are some things in nature that man has no defense against.

Which is one reason we dug a pond on one corner of our property. I have 2.5 acres and we put an 85' x 165' x 13' deep pond on the lowest corner of the place. There aren't any fire hydrants within 5 miles of the house and I don't have faith that a pumper truck from the fire station located 2 miles north could handle a big fire. Also I got a break on my insurance because we have the water source in the back yard. One of my (a-hole) neighbors asked if he could tell his agent he had access to the pond in case of fire and I told him to dig his own pond. I would let the FD access it to keep anyones house from burning down after I made sure my place was safe.

:( Never been in anything like this, but the stories of people who have been there are amazing. My panel truck and coupe live in a pole barn in a pine forest. I have thought about this a lot- about 4 years age the Hayman fire in Colorado was not close, but there were little fires very near- one about 2 miles away. Rodshop

My mom lost her house here a fire a few years ago. Like the folks now, she lost everything but the clothes on her back, she wasn't home during the fire.

While seeing the burnt cars above is sad, they're cars... and it dosen't mean **** in the big picture. It's just one of the thousands of things gone. She still breaks down when she remembers something else that was lost.

I totally understand trying to save what you can, but at some point you just have to be happy to be alive.

Listening to the radio right now, looting going on in the empty neighbor hoods. ****ers should be shot on sight.

It's not allways fire or floods, here our biggest thing is snow and a roof can collapse in a second.

And folks think I'm crazy for living in "Tornado Ally". I guess all parts of the country have some kind of natural threat. I do ache for the loss the affected people have suffered.

Like has been mentioned, lives are way more important than stuff. Prayers continue from Oklahoma.

    Hmmm...
They just finished a ton 'condos' in South Austin and I kept asking my friends "Who the hell can afford to live in those things? I mean, where are those people going to come from?". I guess they won't be vacant long...

No, but they are answering phones for our insurance companies, though.

I live in Saugus and the fire was only a Hill side away. I was evacuated so I grabbed My Dog/ My important Papers/Pics.
The Scariest Part is that I just pulled the Trans Out of my 31 5 Window 2 nights before and My car was on stands in the Garage.
THANK GOD for firefighters and the people that risk their lives to protect Hoodlums like me and there Interests.
