This guy put some work into this......... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1960...oryZ6417QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It was for sale at the Ducktail run three weeks ago. Price on the window was I beleive 14,500. The engine was running when I walked up on it. The person with the car had the aircleaner off and was showing the car to a potential buyer. motor didn't sound real strong.
I saw someone do that to a 55 chevy 4 door. I used to see it around santa monica CA years ago, then I saw it up on ebay a couple of years ago. i always thought it had potential to be cool.. but this one im not sold on. I would have probably just found a 60 el camino and grafted the tailights, grill etc...full custom 60 el camino would be a more solid starting point.
I did that to a '56 Chev four door stationwagon back in the '70s, drove it for years before trading it even up for a Model A pickup. Never completed it like the Poncho but used it everyday.
I have a thing for 60 Pontiacs. If it were closer................................... I don't buy anything without seeing it in person
it's a good idea, but misses the mark in a lot of ways. the body work on the side where the rear doors were welded looks wavy. the extra long trunk and unfinished interior need attention. It looks like he took the stock back window and moved it forward. If the builder had used an elky back window, and a bed complete with rails instead of the extended trunk, he would have really nailed it. Not having the pickup bed utility really shoots the car in the foot. Now, all that said, I LOVE the idea, and LOVE 60 Pontiacs! It just needs a *bit* more in my opinion.....
I am doing that same idea with my 60 el camino, except I started with an el camino, and am using a 4dr hdtp roof. The key is to use 2 door doors, the front doors on a 4 door are too short. I have seen a couple of 59-60 caddys done this way as well.....And I thought I had an original idea. Oh well, nothing new under the sun, unless you are plowboy.
That sold on Ebay earlier this summer out of IN. I cant remember for exactly how much but it was around 6K I like the Idea but as said above its not quite right on the door/back glass
Yeah it looks like they skipped long boarding or blocking it out and just filled over 'stuff' then gave the panels a quick once over. It doesn't look straight or smooth to my eyes .... .
This looks a little better. Ideally you'd do this project with a 2dr hardtop and a 4dr hardtop and swap the shortened flat top onto the 2dr.. or something. But I have always wondered why no one ever took one of those GM flat-tops and made it into a 2-door with the longer doors on it. That's the kind of subtle change that would start arguments at car shows....
I agree, it needs the 2 door doors. If some one buys it and needs some doors, I just bought a 2 door over the weekend. Something tells me that I am not going to be needing the doors from mine. Ha ha ha
Take that to the drive-in movies with ALL of your friends in the trunk. It needs a couple of surf boards mounted to the trunk lid for effect.......and maybe even to go surfing. I think it's pretty groovy.
Also seen it at the Ducktail Run..thought it was pretty unique..It looks long in the pics. but when you see it it person it REALLY looks long.....I think maybe the shorter doors make it look longer even though I'd prefer the doors from a 2 dr...
