This is an older aviation V-12 made by Packard...Merlin was a Rolls-Royce aviation design, made by Packard in this country because RR production was inadequate, especially when the P-51 switched to Merlin power. This engine here is I think entirely Packard, is older design than the Merlin.

I love these old barns. I found a shed so full of T and A Parts the thing fell into itelf, but the parts were stacked so high you couldnt tell it had fallen in. The old bastard wouldnt sell any of it, I`m sure it will end up like many others, the old guy dies and it all gets auctioned off or sent to scrap... Thats great you found one that is willing to sell everything. That PT boat motor is worth some serious $$$$$$ There are a lot of guys looking for them!!

Only a dedicated car nut could properly mine a collection like that for sale... someone turning it into quick money to clear the place would never be able to ID all the pistons and such, and would almost necessarily go to the scrap man.

That looks like one of Chuck Kuntz's (Altoona, PA) barns.

    It's not him, is it?

I hope not, as that would mean something is wrong.

Sadly that is the case in our area,,alot of them say " ahh I bought that and was gonna redo it ,,but then time ..." it's sad,but most of them built so many cool cars in the past,,there are also a few who are just holding on to everything ,saying that they are gonna do that one next.

I just read yesterday that over 1000 WW2 vets are dying every DAY.
These are the guys that hoarded much of the stuff we crave...
Hence the massive amounts of parts coming available. how i would love to buy some of those barns and leave 'em padlocked for another 50 or so years...

  23. You could quit your day job and sell that stuff off .... if only you could identify most of it.

I second the stuff at auction, I went to one where a guy retired and sold off the contents of the garage. Scrap guys bought an old Chevy van and filled it with things - they bought entire sections of stuff off the walls and it just went into the bus, shelves and all, lots of used '58-'60 T-bird parts, like $10 for a whole section of the wall. I bought a '60 grille off them for $2.

I have no idea what happened to all the cars, a lot of Mustangs and the like.
