And don't give us any crap about the alternator. We built this thing to drive.

Got a 59AB in our '47 sedan. Flatties defintiely have one of the nicest exhaust sounds I know of. As far as how many are left around? They are definitely out there, all you need to do is keep your eyes peeled. They can show up in the strangest places.

When I first saw the title of the thread, my first reaction was ...

    HOW HIGH IS UP??

Let's see. One on the stand, one in the "A", three upstairs - in pieces - and one in the carport.

For my dad and I, 5 in runners 6 total if you include a Willys truck with its Super Hurricane flat 6. Half a dozen others not currently in vehicles.

I have Two flatheads, one is torn down to be rebuilt for the blower setup in my t bucket, the other should be a runner after I get a dizzy, and the carb rebuilt, and head gaskets. Im going to run that one in my T Bucket while building up the blower motor.

i have one in my kustom 50 shoe box, fully dressed and runs like a champ, nothing like the feel, sound, look and toughness of a flathead, unlike the sbc,or kragen motor as we call them. The flathead is a tough son of a bitch, that keeps on going, shit we are still talking about them, building them, developing new speed equipment for them and racing them...dont forget we are still DRIVING them everyday just like in the day...now what does that say about this engine??

I have 10 total and only 4 run. One Mercury is completly rebuilt, one Merc. has the lower end redone, two others are running Fords the rest are in all stages. I have 2 Fords for sale now too. All but one are the 49-53 vintage also. I doubt they will be getting any cheaper in the future. Flatheads forever!!! Gary M

  15. Okay: Was in the workshop today . . . damn things multiplied since my last post! Looks like I have 8 or so that I think are "good" blocks (no cracks) - 3 are 59AB series, two L's, one Z. The other 5 are 49-53 style. I also have three that I know are cracked -- one is heavily ported/relieved and has been welded (might be good).

The best news yet is that my wife today said that she's looking to do something creative ( and doesn't like the girly-girly stuff) -- said that she's interested in building a car. So . . . I told her that she can build a full-house flathead this winter as her first engine. Can it really get any better than this? I've struck the mother load fellas . . .

    I'm a lucky SOB . . .
