That is what I was going to do. The fires didn't get to where I live, but we were ready to go. My wife was going to take the minivan with the kids and I was going to take my 62 Buick. My 04 Malibu daily driver was going to be left behind.

Our friend has 9 cars (most are vintage Ferraris and Mercedes SL300 roadsters) in the garage in Anahiem Hills and 2 cars in the driveway and only 2 drivers....when the fires hit, he's not going to have time to round up drivers when his neighbors are fleeing......he already knows they may be lost in the next fire.... like people have said, there just isn't enough time to move them all. The fires move fast with the high winds and the fires are HOT.
The smoke is dying down now, we are breathing better......

  3. fact is, Mother nature can spank us at any time, we are but ants under the boot. I live in a desert/prairie eviroment. Even those nice little grasses can raise a fire storm that will ignite anything in its path. many houses, cars burn from the radiant heat, drapes and interiors just combust even though the house or car doesnt ever catch fire on the outside. Fire is a way of life in the West. Here is not the place for politics or history lessons........just get your family out when it happens. I have been in fire, tornados and floods............none are cool, respect.

  4. Sue the environmental groups that made it so you can't even clear a firebreak on your own property, I guess.
