I got a '39 ford straight axle. Somebody used it as a trailer axle with some pretty heavy duty brackets. I've heard a couple of different methods to free up the KINGS...is it safe to use a lil' heat, should i just get some zercs and pump each pin with as much grease as possilbe...and no I can't afford press/machine new pins...give me all the cheap quick fix advice for now thanks! Up to no good!
We use the torch, a hammer and a bottle jack if they go out through the top by putting the weight of the vehicle on the kingpin and heating it red hot. We do this with Macks and forklifts so it should be okay for a hotrod also.
That is exactly the way I did it on my '36. It's a wonder anyone survived. We wailed the livin' shit outta that thing. Do not be shy. Wayno
heat beat repeat but make sure you don't hit your hand the UFC aint got shit on a 2 lb sledge hitting your index nuckel tk
Along with lots of heat I use an air chisel with a modified bit that is real blunt. The combination of heat/vibration has saved my ass on several frozen king pins. This method also works great on hige pins.
