I'm looking for the proper name for the tool used to form the metal as shown in the following photos... This tool was quite handy and it only took 20 - 30 minutes to form 17 holes - but it took a few hours to make the tool ! If anyone sells such a tool, I would like to purchase others... Now I have one for 1 1/2 diameter holes, but not all sheet metal holes will be this size... email dave@team321.com if you know where to purchase these...
I have a page showing more detailed photos: http://team321.com/tooldie/tool.html and this is the effect the tool has on the sheetmetal. This improves the look of a flat piece of steel as well as making it more rigid. dave http://www.team321.com Cocoa Beach FL
Greenley (SP?) electrical knock outs do basically the same thing. You drill a small hole put the two pieces together and tighten them down. They also have fancy hydraulic ones too. I don't think it would be hard to modify them to roll the edges of the hole to get the effect that you want. Hope this helps, Don

Belling tools are what I always heard them called. Been around for years, the type you have make "bells" the metal to the angle of the punch the ones that I have make a much deeper bell and are easier to make as you only have to cut diameters not angles. I think that the bell or flare also adds more stiffness. I am attaching a picture of the tool and the belled holes on an aircleaner that I made. Rex
They are called "Dimple Dies" in the aircraft industry, and you can buy them seperately or complete sets, just do a Google search. I'm sure its cheaper to buy one than your time to make one.
Belling dies , yes, they ain't cheap, www.tricktools.com......I made one yrs ago out oak on a wood lathe. Only used it for 2 friggin holes then, never again. BARRESSE'
