Unfortunately, when my legs give out. Which is earlier in the day than I care to discuss.
    Heck, I'm only 49 and I still don't know what happened.

So, help him out a bit more. What would be good for the ladies to be able to do? We all know what we like to have at shows, but nobody has offered any thoughts for the ladies.

10.Plan in advance-try not to schedule on same dates that other events are taking place.
    9.Location--in the shade
    8.Food and drinks
7.Door prizes-at least nice dash plaques
6.Raffle prizes-things that the women and kids would like to win also.
5.Open admission to any year-you want a big show then don't be narrow minded to just a select era, plus if you want the public to show up they want to see all kinds of different models of cars.
4.Entertainment with variety-goes with a variety of cars..
3.Trophies..if you are showing for fellowship with other car guys then don't worry about whether your car is judged. If you're there for the "hardware" great..
2.After show appreciation bbq or the like for car show entrants.
1.Be friendly to all.Make sure everyone knows that they were a very important part of that show. Thanks for the support of the show speech..

Feel free to add to list as this is the basics.

I think i agree with Fred, Only here in So. Cal. we have the "SENIOR BAD ***" Which is the same as Jr. but he is of drinking age so he gets Fully ****ed up on PBR and seems to wanna fight.

Car shows are gettin worse every year with the Gang Banger Mentality & the drunk Fools who wanna fight or do Do~Nuts in the gr***.

Oh I forgot to add pick a year limit stick to it. It will probably end up being either pre-65, or pre-72. That's the one thing I ****ing hate is going to a car show with a year limit and they don't follow their own rules. Yes it's nice that Mr. Moneybags has a brand new vette with twin turbos that makes 1250 hp and it does impress me, but if I wanted to look at modern cars I'd go to the Atlanta Auto Show or ****ing NOPI.

What? You didn't get the memo about getting with gals that actually enjoy hot rods and cars?!? Geez, you guys are missing out.

Seriously though, if guys can put up with doing **** they don't want to do for their women, the ladies can stand to be out in the fresh air and walking around for a few hours.

In my opinion a car show takes on the personality of it's owner or promoter . So that being said why do you want to put on a show, is it to get a bunch of liked mined people together to have fun or is it to make money either will show through ! Many shows have started life as the first and with success turned into the later. Either way the true personality comes through. SO what is the formula for a good show.....Start with good people and build around that ( Good car club, motorcycle club what ever ) the rest of what kinda of music to play, age of cars, trophies or no trophies are all debatable

Dude, you've never been to the Pile-Up, have you? If I was going to crib a show, I'd stick to that one. But what do I know, I'm biased.

This will give you an idea if there's any open dates.

Swap meet - spots $20 or less - the cheaper they are the more will come - be generous with the space, and try and arrange it so they're near the food tent, so that foot traffic is drawn through the swap, and so if a guy wants to go get a bite, he can do it and not be away from his space for three hours.

    Your dead-nuts on Bob.....

The only thing I would add to the list or maybe even insert as the #1 and #2 requirements would be to make sure you have plenty of people working the show AND directing the participants where to park - there's nothing worse than pulling in to a show and having no idea where to park.
    Good luck Kevin, Mike

Good idea! I couldn't agree more. The last show I went to I showed up 15 minutes after it started and they told me the lot was full. I drove around the perimeter, had a friend hold up the rope, told some lawn chair cowboys to get out an empty parking space and sit behind or infront of their car and parked. Went to pay my entry fee and said there are still 5 spots open.

Amen to that. If you're hosting the show, you can select whatever you want, of course. But don't jerk around everyone by announcing a cut-off date and then not sticking to it. Makes you sound like a liar and a wuss.

I would suggest doing volunteering for some other shows, so you can get experience behind the scenes. Doing so may help you avoid some dumb mistakes right off the bat. You don't want your showing getting a bad reputation to start with.

I have some good news. I went to the club meeting tonight and gave them my idea. All went well and we are looking at holding the show September 20th, 2008 at Zinc City Dragway in Trachsville, Pa. More information will come at a later date and be finalized.

  19. you might want to check into your citys park ord. most public parks will not let you charge an admission fee using a public park.
