I am building a 30 AV8. The original steel body already had the floor cut out of it when I got it and it is really wobbly :D. OK, it's not even wobbly, it's in 4 pieces and bent to hell.

Anyway, I want to start fabbing up the new floor but need the basic floor dimensions so I can jig it in place all square and like.

I am looking across the web and not having any luck. Anybody out there have any of the body dimensions so I can square this thing up, brace it and put a floor in it?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure there's a difference From coupe to roadster or if the 29 and 30 are that much different. But my 29 coupe (now a roadster) is 26" from the base of the "A" pillar at the rocker sill to the base of the "B" pillar (door latch pillar)

The cowl should be stiff enough to self regulate it's width but in case it isn't I measured 36 1/2" from left to right.

The latch piller from left to right measured 41 1/2"

    Hope that helps.

Thats a good start. Can I get another dimension from you?

I have the cowl off the car, doors are not attached. Looking forward at the cowl as if you were in the car looking forward. I need to get the dimension from the left lower door hinge mounting hole to the right lower hinge mounting hole. I need to put a brace across here and want it to be a good reference.

If you can wait until Sunday I can measure my 31 roadster. The body was restored when I bought it about 18 years ago. It's been sitting since.

I'm in Michigan now & fly back to Oregon Saturday. The body is in my shop there.

Hope someone else here can give you the measurements you need before then.

The Model A scans has lots of great info. I will certainly use it when I mount the body to the frame. Unfortunately though, nothing that will help me in my current quest.

    Got the dimensions this morning

    But good news & bad

The measurement you'll have to work from is the width of the cowl where it meets the sub frame. 37"

Bad news is that my 30-31 roadster only has two bolts in the cowl post for the hinge. What you appear to have is a coupe/sedan cowl. The roadster has much thinner door posts because the doors were much smaller & lighter.

My cowl bolt spacing for the bottom hole Centerline spacing (which is equivalent to the dimension you asked for) is 40". Top hinge bottom hole centerline spacing is 43-5/8.

Would you post some pictures of the entire cowl so the your question could be answered by someone else. Maybe there were 2 different roadster cowls, early & late???

have you thought about buying an ***embled brookvile sub-rail ***embly and just attach the rest of your body onto it?
might save alot of time and aggrivation...plus it'll look good

    good luck in any case

I measured a 31 2 dr sedan cowl today & it has the same hinge bolt configuration as those in your photo.

The outside bolt measurement on the bottom hinge was 42" & the outside bolt on the top hinge was 44-3/4 inches. If your cowl measures 44-3/4 on the top hinge then you've got a coupe-sedan & many other body style cowl.
