man that looks good, i do have to say thats the nicest 51 merc grill treatment ive seen in a while. 49-50 surround works well with 51 grill. good job.
Very Kool Mike, Your front end treatment is a good example of Merc Viagra!SHHwinnngg!!! It is amagzing how the lines of a Merc can change with a little bit of thought. Happy Trails, Mick
Thanks. I actually used the original 51 grill surround. I cut off part of the '51 grill surround. The protruding part that sits right below the front hood edge. Then I got some metal, rounded it around some pipe, and welded that on. So the new section I added on is further back, making it look like a '50 surround (flush with hood). IMHO it would be a waste to use a '50 surround with the stock 51 merc grill. Reason being the 51 merc grill and parking light housing requires a big square hole cut into the corner of the '50 surround.
Here's a random one I picked up somewhere off the internet. While a traditional custom merc is my favorite style, I always thought this one was kinda cool jacked up with the cheaters on it. Somewhere I have piles of pics from the Mid Century Mercury club shows in Kenosha, WI back in the early 80's. Some of the mercs on the first few pages I remember seeing there. Sadly, my scanner doesn't speak to my new computer. Hopefully I can get that figured out and scan them in.
theres a ton of pics on www.carnut.com. if you havent checked it out yet, its a gas!! all makes all models most years. some nice merc pics.
Oh my god, that is a beautiful car. I've never seen a 3 window merc like that before......I think I just fell in love. Or at least splooged in my pants.........................
You must not have started at the beginning. Cause that's a photoshopped picture. But it is the most beautiful look i've seen.
wow funny to see that here! that was my godfathers merc. he just sold it the same week i sold mine.. my father, and brother did the body and paint on it ..
o yeah I love the more doors. keep me posted with some pics as it gets built. the chop looks awesome cant wait to see some paint on it. What are you running for suspension?
Oh and heres a before pic. I've been working on it since Febuary 07. So far, all work done by myself.
