If you get the vanity plates, make sure you get some fuzzy dice and a crybaby doll, or whatever those damn things are called.

Thats the whole point, they are not cooler, and only you should be naming your truck, if it needs a name at all. Those old plates are on Egay all the time.

What you do is get a 1947 plate.
Then go get a vanity plate with the
1947 plates numbers on it. Then your
    registration matches your antique plate.

Don't ask about the legality of this, just assume
    it's okay, haha.

i do like the idea of the 47 plates, i like it alot but im still not going to rule out the vanity plate idea. I like that people are giving me ideas but i dont know what they mean, i dont want people to be asking me what it stands for and not have an answer!

I have a vanity plate on my '57 chevy, didn't like the everyday plates from the DMV. Year of manufacture plates are neat ,but my only "problem" with them is say you see a '32 ford done period correct late 50's style with 1932 plates. Does not make sense. If there were a way to run oh... 1958 plates on the car that would fit the look and be much cooler in my opinion.

i wouldnt say that their gay, my buddy is restoring a 56 ford country sedan station wagon that belonged to his grandparents, it sat in their yard for 40+ years and they used it to deliver baked goods back in the day, he has vanity plates that say PIEWAGN i thought that was pretty sweet!

Your truck , you do what you want

Until congress gives the HAMB power to create laws banning
what some consider "Gay" ..The choice is yours

thanks for your input Big Dad, i know this is off topic but since your an alliance member you might know, how do i get rid of my FNG status?

  18. I'd go with YOM plates. Call DMV and ask what you need.
    • 1 or 2 plates?
    • Commercial plate(s) because it's a pickup?
    • Is the number "clear" (not in use)?
    • ...?
    Thanks,
    Kurt

  19. I'm taking the "BADDADZ" plates off my Merc,as soon as the 47 plates I have are done being restored.

You mean the HAMB needs Congress to pass the law? We can't do it ourselves?

YOM = Year OF Manufacture...so one from your state in the year 1947. For a truck. Not bagging on you or anything , but vanity plates are really not looked upon here in this site very well, its kinda the high brow , gold chainer thing..and not very traditional.

But its your ride and your money,, do what you will with it

find out what letter/number combo was used in 47

come up with something you want to use with that same combo

get vanity plates through DMV to match that letter/number combo

find someone that makes plates to make them to match that combo and as they were in 47.

its custom and original at the same time. also, if police look it up its legal and registered, worse case you have a fix it ticket and you pop the real ones back on.

Keep in mind that YOM plates are not legal in all states either... So by doing a vanity plate with the letter/number combination that was used in '47 would be cool also... also some states you can get away with an antique vehicle tag... I would go that route before vanity plates... just check with you DMV to see what your options are...
