I tried searching and found a lot of good stuff on removing the torque tube but not much on how to get the driveshaft disconnected. I got the pin out of the splined coupler but not sure how to get the shaft out now. Do I just pull? Is there a safe way to tap on it? Here's a couple of pics. It's a 46-48 Ford rear. Thanks for your help.
Should slide off. I would try to wedge something between the coupler and the pinion nut. Big ball joint pickle fork?Cold chizel?Screwdriver?
Try a truck tire changing tire iron or some kind of pry bar behind the sleeve, it should slide right off.
You might try tapping the sleeve a time or two with a plastic deadblow hammer as you turn the shaft to kinda shake things loose, then pry a bit. It might just slip right off or you may end up in an asylum.
Just pull...no violence unless you rest the actual sleeve on an anvil, like you will need to when staking the new pin. Misguided violence will be absorbed directly by the pinion bearings, which you probably won't need to change otherwise...
Thanks for the help everyone. I'll give it another shot when I get home. That's what I'm hoping to avoid. Thanks for the heads up.
